Eternal Mongolia is an initiative of Enduring Earth, an ambitious collaboration that has already protected over 100 million hectares of lands, ocean, and freshwater around the world The Government of Mongolia, The Nature Conservancy (TNC), and others, announced the launch of Eternal Mongolia – a Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) initiative that will deliver lasting conservation and sustainable community development for the Central Asian country whose vast steppe represents our planet’s last great tract of intact temperate grassland. Eternal Mongolia is a negotiated partnership that will deliver USD $198 million of new investment over 15 years to support Mongolia’s ambitious goals and deliver lasting conservation and sustainable community development in and around protected areas. This includes a US $71 million transition fund from private and other global donor sources. This transition fund will accelerate Mongolia’s conservation and community development goals, while providing time to develop sustainable financing mechanisms to ensure protected areas can be managed sustainably in the long-term and that Mongolian people benefit from nature, now and for the future. Eternal Mongolia will dramatically expand and strengthen the effectiveness of the country’s entire National Protected Area network, support sustainable herding practices, invest in the sustainable tourism industry, and set an unprecedented example to the rest of the world about the value of land and freshwater conservation. The PFP will support local community-driven proposals to safeguard an additional 14.4 million hectares of Mongolia’s lands and waters including intact grasslands, forests, deserts, wetlands and rivers; strengthen the management of all of Mongolia’s National Protected Areas covering 47 million hectares; and extend sustainable and climate-resilient community-managed practices to 34 million hectares outside protected areas. #mongolia #sustainaibilty #conservation #biodiversity Continue reading here: https://lnkd.in/gKAYGpiQ

But in coastal Iloilo City, Philippines, a successful rehabilitation project has led to the rapid regrowth of a coastal mangrove forest. Now, as a next step, the authorities are embarking on a nationwide mangrove-mapping project, which experts say would help better quantify natural capital for the archipelagic state. It could prove important in determining if a development project is a "go or no-go" given the environmental impact it could potentially cost, or in the most extreme circumstances, help calculate the compensation needed to offset the destruction caused, said Rina Rosales, a sustainable natural resource management specialist. I knew I had a calling to Costa Rica 🇨🇷 but didn’t know why. Thank you Karen Thomas for such an unexpected a fabulous insight into this amazing part of the world. I watched a documentary on Netflix earlier in the year, Down To Earth and was drawn to the episode based in Costa Rica. I’ve never been, but I knew I’d had a calling. I’ve been to Panama, it’s boarding country, that also has a pacific and a Caribbean coast, TWICE. Hearing Karen’s talk yesterday cemented why I am drawn to this place: 1) it is a true democracy! Created as one and remains strong today. 2) is has NO army! 3) it is practive on its eco tourism, protecting wildlife first! 4) meaning it has 500,000 species of wildlife 😆💕💕💕💕💕💕 5) it is illegal to drill for oil I mean YES 🙌 no need for just stop oil! Yet it has an abundant economy. Go figure!!!! 6) 90% of its energy IS renewable 🙌 Did you know when Columbo DISCOVERED Costa Rica, the thriving indigenous communities were almost wiped out, due to the diseases they were exposed to. Some things are not meant to be exposed, dig up, destroyed…. Wilderness is natural and a human experience. I can’t wait to spend time here. It is on my life strategy. To be part of eco conservation. To be part of an economy that is already almost renewable. To be able to be me, close to nature, surrounded by nature at its best. What is your soul calling you to do? Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Costa Rica, a remarkable Central American country that truly amazed me with its #commitment to #sustainability and #conservation. What's even more impressive is how they've utilised these efforts to build a thriving tourism industry attracting 1.7 million visitors annually, while earning recognition as one of the highly #developed #economies, as per the UN's definition. Here's what they've accomplished in terms of sustainability and conservation: Costa Rica, a #biodiversity haven boasting 500,000 species, made a groundbreaking decision in 1949 by abolishing its army. Instead of allocating resources towards military spending, the country chose to #invest in conservation, education, and healthcare. This #strategic decision has led to remarkable prosperity and 25 years of steady economic growth for Costa Rica💰🌿 They're pioneers in #reforestation 🌳, increasing their tropical #rainforest coverage from a low of 40% in 1987 to nearly 60% today. Costa Rica has been powered by 98% #renewableenergy since 2014, with hydroelectric, wind, and geothermal sources leading the way. 🌋 In a #groundbreaking move, Costa Rica became the first Latin American country to ban sport hunting. In recent years, the Kunagua Network has grown considerably, currently consisting of about 30 families that protect 80 hectares of cloud forest in the process of restoration. This increase in the population and the protected territory has been accompanied by a wide diversity of activities focused on sustainability. These include increasing agroecological crops for food sovereignty; strengthening the Kunagua School Forest, an alternative, autonomous and collaborative education process; constructing buildings using natural materials, building dry toilets, and managing gray water, among others. 💛 The heart houses of Waia Sie have been the scene of markets, fairs, meetings, celebrations, dance and drumming, where the fire is lit and music embraces us, where we dance in the forest and celebrate life. This reserve has been part of the Kunagua network for 10 years. ☁️ In addition, they have carried out actions to defend the territory, which led to the suspension of a mining extraction project in a cloud forest area, which has required constant monitoring and verification actions. ⛰️ This reactivation of the Kunagua Network led to its election as host of the 17th edition of the Llamado de la Montaña 2024, the Colombian meeting of ecovillages, one of the most representative meetings of the movement in Latin America. Faced with this responsibility, the Network began a process of community organization based on Sociocracy, with the guidance of the Una Nueva Ecovillage project, and is preparing a meeting that will serve both to bring together the ecovillage movement in Colombia and Latin America, and to connect and articulate with other environmental and state movements, in a quite unique national political situation, with a government with a clear commitment to ecology.
