Great to see Syzygy’s Richard Price and Ben Smith out in the market talking all things EV, HGV, fleet and truck stops, more importantly how to shift the dial on deploying these technologies across large portfolios.
I was very pleased to join a fantastic panel at the inaugural #RacetoZero event today, discussing the future of EV infrastructure (road, fleet, freight and air!) At some industry events it is easy to fall into a bit of an echo chamber that only celebrates the work done so far to expand EV Charging across the UK. However, on the day that Syzygy’s EV Team (Ben Smith and I) issued a large retail park tender on behalf of Schroders Capital it felt appropriate to highlight the considerations and hurdles our clients - major landlords, landowners, developers - face to secure that infrastructure on their estates through self-funding or CPO partnerships. There is still a mistrust from both sides of this emerging industry - though Ben and I are working hard to transition #EVCharging from being considered a service to becoming a commercial tenant, a critical change necessary to getting the right chargers and the right partnerships at the right locations. It was a lively debate from a cracking panel of Toddington Harper, Philip Kingsley-Dobson, Laura Lancaster (née Cassell) and Amy Carter moderated excellently by Chris Kirby. A really good day - with thanks to GRIDSERVE Braintree for hosting, Angela Muresan ☀️ for working tirelessly to organise this first event and Sara Sloman for winning the Race to Zero! Have a great weekend, everyone.

With the upcoming launch of the new Low Emission Zones (LEZs) in Aberdeen, Dundee and Edinburgh, it has never been more important for Scottish businesses to understand how these zones will impact their fleets, and how they can support their transition to EV. 🚗🏴 According to a 2023 survey conducted by Webfleet, cost pressures prompted 76% of UK-fleet managers to postpone their transition to EV. 💰 We believe that cost shouldn’t stand in the way of your business's Net Zero goals. That’s why our FOR Fleets service takes care of all upfront costs to help deliver long-term savings, allowing your business to embark on its EV journey. 🛣 Find out more about how we can support your fleets transition to EV here: https://lnkd.in/ehqHdrsU Read the full Insider article on Scotland's newly launched LEZs at: https://lnkd.in/eJfimXpf

Midlands Connect to investigate decarbonising its canal network. Sub-national transport body Midlands Connect has announced plans for a network of electric chargepoints along canals in its region within the next 20 years. The organisation is researching the sustainable potential of narrowboats, which often use the Worcester and Birmingham Canal, Droitwich Canals and Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Electric narrowboating is currently a niche proposition with only a few pilot trials, but Midlands Connect Engine believes electric-powered boats could become more ubiquitous. Mains chargers are currently limited to marinas and some permanent moorings but forecasts suggest that by 2040 an effective network of charging points will be required along the canal network. Midlands Connect’s head of new technologies, Bharat Pathania said, “All forms of transport are evolving to become more sustainable, and this will include our canals. Our aim is to identify the building blocks that need to be in place to affect positive influence on the decarbonisation of our canals... https://buff.ly/47xbRvq #decarbonisation #Sustainability #Decarbonise #zeroemissions #canals #midlands

🚘 Bremen is piloting the first step towards a city-wide network of shared electric vehicles 🔌 How can a city reduce carbon emissions, air pollution, and private car reliance all in one go? Fleets of shared electric vehicles is one option being explored by the city of Bremen in COPPER. They aim to answer a big question for European cities aiming for sustainable electric mobility: As shared EVs are moved and charged in different places across the day, how can cities and DSOs ensure local grids can support the additional strain? Working closely with cambio CarSharing Deutschland and local DSO Wesernetz, Bremen will install and monitor charging infrastructure for a pilot fleet of electric vehicles. The municipality will collect data on the local grid and mobility patterns, helping them create one of Europe’s first mobility-centred Local Energy Action Plans (LEAP). Their LEAP will support them with decisionmaking for any future plans to take electric shared mobility city-wide. Learn more about the other pilots in the COPPER initiative ➡ https://lnkd.in/d5FzA4DE
