“This is our home, and who doesn’t want to come home and see a clean house?” said Brazillian waste collector, João Vitor Lima. The Cidades programme by our partner Recicleiros is paving the way for cleaner communities by bringing recycling to small and medium-sized cities across Brazil. Collaboration lies at the core of Cidades’ success, as it works to create a socially inclusive ecosystem. It brings together waste collectors, businesses, citizens, and municipal governments to increase recycling rates and reduce household waste going to landfills. And its impact is replicable. From its pilot in the city of Ceará, Cidades has grown to establish 14 sorting centres nationwide, reaching over 84,000 people with new or improved waste management services. By 2027, it aims to scale to 60 cities across Brazil’s 26 states. More than just offering a practical solution, Cidades is connecting key players along the value chain, laying the groundwork for an equitable and economically viable system for sustainable waste management. We can actually reuse these solid wastes. Every Municipality could have a unit with low investment costs, high energy efficiency from RSU and RSI. The advantage of our project is its compact units, which can be installed inside a recycling ship, landfills and recyclers. Our compact plant can go on board a recycling ship, produce fuel, eco diesel and remain at sea for a long time.
