With NeighborLink new platform, anyone from anywhere at any time can ask for help or offer assistance to their neighbors however they need. Regarding all the ways the community can help support NeighborLink, Eric said there are three main ways to join the mission. The first is if someone needs help, to sign up and ask for help. The second way to do our part is for everyone to sign up and select projects to help our neighbors, get to know them, and create a lasting relationship. The final way you can help is through donations. Donations allow NeighborLink to help relieve some of the financial burdens of larger projects that require various costly materials. There are currently nearly 9,000 youths in Tennessee foster care—yet there are only homes for a little more than half of them. Within the first 12 months of being in this program, 30% of those youths are moved through three or more homes. Without our help, the trauma of this unstable environment has been shown to have a negative impact on these youths for the rest of their lives. If you don’t know how to help but feel like this is your calling, some wonderful options to get involved are: 1. Join a volunteer committee 2. Become a corporate sponsor 3. Make recurring monthly donations 4. Become a Friend of Jonathan’s Path 5. Host a fundraiser event (even at a distance!) Community is everything to me. We cannot survive without each other. I had several people come to my table at Soda City the other day asking for help. I know it takes an incredible amount of humbling to ask strangers for help for things like transportation or money to wash their clothes. I managed to collect some donations for the Liberation Fund, so it was a no-brainer that I give some (actually most 😅) of that money I collected that day to them. When I created the Liberation Fund, it was supposed to be for the community. Did I give them free books? Nope. That’s not what they needed in the moment. But who am I to say take this book to add to your already heavy load as you navigate through this world looking to survive? This is why the Liberation Fund is radical. In investing in the fund, you give back to your community in ways you might not have ever imagined. From a child excited to get a free book during an event to a person looking to clean their clothes after all of their things had been evicted from their home. Independent bookstores are the lifeblood of the community. So please consider donating to the Liberation Fund so we can open our doors to serve more of the community and pay it forward to those in need 💛 https://lnkd.in/e2KPbFdn #givingback #community #socialenterprise #BlackOwnedBookstore
