We’re thrilled to share that Telethon7 2024 raised an incredible $83,264,216 for children across WA! 🎉 As a proud beneficiary, we had an amazing time at the Telethon Family Festival, showcasing our Backpack Buddies program, which provides weekend food packs to children in the Mandurah and Peel region facing hunger. This is just the start for us. When we launched in February, we were supporting just 5 students—now, we’re helping 130 children every weekend! But with another 100 children on our waiting list, we need your support to grow this program and ensure no child faces hunger. A huge thank you to Telethon and the incredible WA community for making all of this possible! 💛 Together, we’re changing lives. Please help us continue to expand Backpack Buddies so we can ensure no child goes hungry. 🟡 Ask R U OK? Any Day – because life happens every day 🟡 With nearly half of Australians facing cost-of-living and personal debt stress, the impact on mental wellbeing is significant. Stress and anxiety caused by financial pressures are common, but meaningful conversations can help ease the burden. Starting conversations about money may feel awkward, but by showing genuine interest, concern, and creating space to listen, we can make a positive difference. Regular check-ins help build trust and ensure the people we care about know we’re here when times are tough. Community Support: If you or someone you know are going through a tough time and live in the Mandurah area, our Community Food Pantry is open every Monday and Friday from 11 am to 1 pm, offering food relief and a listening ear. If you're feeling the strain, pop in – we’re here for you. 💛 #RUOK #CostOfLiving #CommunitySupport #MentalHealthMatters #BusinessForGood #EmployeeWellbeing #FoodRelief #Support

August 2024 Impact Report This month, our Community Food Pantry has made a significant difference in the lives of our community members. We provided 334 food relief hampers to households in need, supporting over 1,275 individuals with more than 7,650 meals. Our Backpack Buddies program continues to bridge the weekend hunger gap for 120 children experiencing food insecurity, delivering over 3,248 meals to them and their families through local schools. In addition to providing essential meals, we also rescued over 3,250kg of food from landfill, helping to reduce waste and ensure more people have access to nutritious food. "This service has helped me and my children's wellbeing and livelihood become stable. It's taken us from struggling to secure." (Community Food Pantry Client) These numbers are a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by many in our community. According to a recent Finder report, more than half of Australians are running out of money before their next payday. The data reveals: 📝 6% run out of money every month, by an average of $249. 📝 Women are almost twice as likely as men to struggle, at 20% compared to 11%. 📝 69% of those struggling cite the soaring cost of living as the main pressure, while 40% attribute it to unexpected expenses. We understand the financial pressures many face, and we're here to help—no judgment, just support. Together, we can continue to uplift our community and provide the assistance needed during these tough times. If you'd like to support our work, consider donating or holding a food or fund drive. We are incredibly grateful to The Agency - WA, Channel 9, and 6PR Perth for their generous support. Receiving this grant helps us continue our mission to support children and families in Western Australia. Our Backpack Buddies program, launched at the beginning of the school year, has already grown from assisting just 5 students to supporting over 126 children in the Mandurah and Peel region. We also have a growing waiting list extending into Rockingham. This initiative is crucial for providing weekend food relief to children in need, ensuring they have the nourishment they need to thrive. We couldn’t do this without the fantastic support from our community, partners, and volunteers. If you’re interested in helping us make a difference, please visit our website at www.bridgebuilders.org.au to learn more about donating, sponsoring, or volunteering. Did you know that 1 in 6 children in Australia live below the poverty line? In the Peel region, this translates to over 6,000 children facing daily challenges that many of us cannot imagine. Children growing up in poverty often go to bed or attend school hungry. They may feel left out when they can’t join a local sports team or participate in school camps. Many live in overcrowded homes without a quiet place to do homework, constantly worrying about their parents' struggles. Research shows that child poverty isn’t just about lacking food and shelter. Financial hardship limits children's lives, learning, and permeates every aspect of their existence. Children at the forefront of the housing crisis often face frequent relocations due to high rents, disrupting their education and friendships. You cannot end child poverty without addressing ‘non-material’ poverty. And you can’t end all poverty without addressing child poverty. At Bridge Builders, we have pledged our support to end child poverty alongside many other organisations. We are dedicated to working within our community to create a brighter future for all children. Through our programs and initiatives, we provide essential support and resources to families in need. But we cannot do this alone. We need support from community members, not-for-profits, corporate organisations, and elected representatives to call on the Federal Government to finally end child poverty in Australia. Join Bridge Builders and other organisations in our mission to end child poverty. Sign the petition and pledge your support. Together, we can create lasting change. 👉 Sign the Petition and Pledge Your Support https://lnkd.in/g5PAJsuK #LegislatetoEndChildPoverty #ValuingChildrenInitiative #NoChildInPoverty #BackpackBuddiesWA #BridgeBuildersWA #EndChildPoverty Valuing Children Initiative | Western Australian Council of Social Service (WACOSS) | Anglicare WA | Shelter WA
