🌴The Dark Side of Summer Travel: Fraud Edition Last year, we flagged a surge in travel-related fraud, with attacks doubling the usual rate. We thought 2023 was an anomaly. Well, we were wrong (kind of). This year, travel fraud attacks are "only" 1.8x the norm. Better? Slightly. Concerning? Definitely! 🚨 Why are fraudsters still jet-setting on our dime? 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆: Over a quarter of Americans are so eager to travel, they're willing to go into debt. More money in travel = more fraud opportunities. 𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘁-𝗠𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 = 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸: Last-minute travel reservations (within 48 hours) are almost 3x more likely to be fraudulent than those booked in advance. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Detecting fraud in travel is tricky. Signs of fraud in other sectors (like unusual IPs or new devices) can be common among legit travelers. 🌟 The silver lining? Personalized protection can help distinguish legitimate customers from fraudsters, making the travel experience smoother and safer for everyone. Fighting travel fraud is tough, but with the right strategies, we can protect businesses and enhance the experience for good travelers. (Link in the comments to dive further into the topic.)
