How can innovative waste-to-fuel technologies transform the aviation industry? POWERHOUSE ENERGY GROUP PLC (PHE) and Avioxx have joined forces to deploy PHE’s feedstock testing unit at Avioxx’s Project Eden pilot facility. This collaboration represents a significant step toward developing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) solutions. Project Eden aims to produce 200 tonnes of SAF annually, leveraging PHE’s gasification technology. The companies are exploring the integration of two 2.5-tonne-per-day gasification trains, designed to supply raw syngas for fuel production. These units, based on PHE’s Feedstock Testing Unit in Bridgend, demonstrate the adaptability of PHE’s technology across industries, including aviation. Paul Emmitt, CEO of Powerhouse Energy, emphasized the potential of SAF to revolutionize cleaner fuel production for the aviation sector, highlighting the value of their technology in achieving sustainability goals. Meanwhile, Chris Hancock, CEO of Avioxx, praised the partnership and technology as critical to advancing a circular economy by transforming waste into valuable Jet A1 kerosene. The partnership builds on Avioxx’s success, including a pre-series A funding round led by travel company Trailfinders in February 2023. With plans for a potential service agreement between the two companies, this collaboration could set a precedent for integrating gasification and electrochemical technologies to enhance SAF production efficiency. 🌏 Two leading Australian companies coming to together to tackle a global issue🌏 Downer and Fortescue Zero have come together at InnoTrans to announce that they will jointly design and develop the world’s most energy efficient Battery Electric Locomotive (BEL).   The BEL will deliver an innovative zero emissions solution for heavy haul rail, marking an important step forward to the commercialisation of zero emissions power system technologies in heavy industry applications.   This collaboration draws on Downer’s rollingstock and engineering experience, combined with Fortescue Zero’s decades long experience as a heavy haul rail operator and expertise in green technologies and zero emissions power systems.   The proposed heavy haul rail solution could also be a platform that enables similar solutions to be developed for passenger and other freight applications, marking the beginning of a potential long-term relationships between the two organisations.   “As Australia’s leading provider of rail and transit systems, I couldn’t be prouder that Downer will now be a world leader in helping rail eliminate emissions,” said Peter Tompkins, Downer CEO.   Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gBpr2Awv #DownerRail #DownerFreight

🌍 LanzaJet's Freedom Pines Fuels plant in Georgia, USA, has opened as the world's first #ethanol to #sustainableaviationfuel production facility. The pioneering ethanol-based technology is capable of scaling production to levels needed to #decarbonise aviation. 🛫 The plant will produce 10 million gallons of #sustainableaviationfuel and #renewablediesel per year from #lowcarbon , sustainable, and certified #ethanol which meets international standards. This will support the White House’s SAF Grand Challenge, which calls for a supply of at least 3 billion gallons of SAF annually by 2030 to reduce aviation emissions. 🌱 With its proprietary ethanol to SAF technology, Lanzajet's Freedom Pines Fuels serves as a blueprint for utilising first-of-its-kind innovation to scale SAF production and combat the worsening climate crisis. With HVO, companies can support their decarbonization goals without having to invest in new equipment. Rolls-Royce and fuel manufacturer Neste cooperate on the implementation of sustainable fuels for mtu engines.  The availability of #HVO is constantly increasing, Neste will for example more than double its production capacity in the next coming years. "I believe that we will see an increased demand for #renewablefuels like HVO, especially when more and more people realize that it’s possible for a #combustionengine to be more sustainable if you just run it on the right fuel", Mats Hultman, Head of OEM Partnerships at Neste says. #mtusolutions #sustainable
