Celebrating Indigenous Cultures Today! Established by the UN on August 9, 1994, this day raises awareness about Indigenous rights and needs. For centuries, Indigenous peoples have thrived in harmony with nature, offering us invaluable lessons in sustainability and cultural richness. Here are 4 facts you might not know about Indigenous people: 🤙 They speak a majority of the world’s estimated 7,000 languages. 🤙 There are 5,000 different Indigenous cultures around the globe. 🤙 In Australia alone, there were once over 300 Indigenous languages and nearly 700 dialects. 🤙 Even though Indigenous peoples make up less than 5% of the world’s population, they account for 15% of the global poor. This Year’s Theme: “Indigenous Youth as Agents of Change for Self-determination” highlights the critical role of young Indigenous leaders in driving sustainable change and advocating for their rights. Today is the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples and we're honouring the important role that Indigenous women play in preserving and passing down knowledge. Indigenous women are the heartbeat of their communities, carrying forward wisdom in environmental stewardship, cultural heritage, and traditional medicines. Not only do they support their own communities but they also contribute to a more global understanding of sustainable living and cultural resilience. In Canada, Indigenous women are guardians of languages, protectors of the land, and keepers of stories that have been passed down through generations. Their role in safeguarding tradition is crucial for maintaining the cultural identities of our First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples. At Peoplebiz Consulting Inc., we're incredibly fortunate to work with some truly amazing people and leaders of Indigenous communities and organizations. We think it's important that we all commit to supporting our Indigenous peoples as they work to protect and sustain their cultures. We see a future where Indigenous knowledge, culture and heritage is celebrated and respected worldwide. #IndigenousDay #IndigenousPeoples #CulturalHeritage #IndigenousWomen #TraditionalKnowledge #Sustainability #IndigenousCommunities #FirstNations #Inuit #Metis #Peoplebiz

🌍✨ Today, on the UN International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, we honour the profound contributions and wisdom of indigenous communities around the globe. Representing around 6% of the world's population, indigenous peoples play a crucial role as stewards of our planet, safeguarding some of its most biodiverse areas. 🌿 Their traditional knowledge and practices are invaluable in our collective efforts to protect the environment. Yet, indigenous communities face significant challenges, from violence and threats to their rights and livelihoods, to the degradation of their ancestral lands by extractive industries. The United Nations reminds us of the importance of safeguarding their rights to live in peace and dignity. We must take action to foster unity and inclusion, and here are a few simple ways to support indigenous communities: 📚 Educate ourselves and others: Learn about indigenous cultures, histories, and the challenges they face. Share this knowledge to raise awareness and promote understanding. ⛔ Stand against discrimination: Challenge and speak out against racism, xenophobia, and bigotry in all forms. Promote inclusivity and respect for all cultures. 📣 Advocate for indigenous rights: Push for policies that protect indigenous rights and lands. Support legislation that upholds the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Their survival is our survival. As we celebrate this day, let's stand in solidarity with indigenous communities, recognising their vital role in our world and supporting their right to self-determination. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #UNIndigenousDay #IndigenousDay #Unity #Diversity #Inclusion #Sustainability #PeaceAndDignity

Today, 9 August is the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples 🌎 and its recognised by the United Nations. The theme, this year is ““Protecting the rights of Indigenous Peoples in Voluntary Isolation and Initial Contact,””- it’s a call to action yet a reminder of the ongoing fight for the rights and justice needed--- Globally. There are approximately, 476 million Indigenous peoples throughout the world, speaking over 7000 languages and celebrating more than 5000 distinct cultures. However, when it comes to the inhumane treatment, deprivation of rights and injustices- it’s of course devastatingly sad. Home here in Australia, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are only 3.8% of the population, and while our contributions to these lands are immeasurable, we continue to face significant challenges resulting from survival after the painful impacts of colonialism and dispossession. Despite being the most incarcerated people on earth, and with many still living in poverty not seen by mainstream Australia – this resilience continues. But there’s also some good positive history to be shared with respect to survival, achievements and contributions for what First Nations peoples stand for and what we represent across the nations. Let us feel the truth as we reflect upon significance. Let us recall the profound resilience and enduring spirit of all Indigenous peoples around the globe, because despite these immense challenges the fight for rights, lands, justices and cultures continues. I believe… I believe we shall all stand in solidarity. Supporting each other in this as we go from strength to strength and together as First Nations peoples- from all around the World- we can create a better future as we collectively journey into the progressive ways for causing change. This way our future generations will truly benefit from the work that is done by everyone 🫶🏾 Image source UN website. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #SelfDetermination #Indigenous #community #Aboriginal #FirstNations #Indigenous
