Volkswagen has set a new record for range covered by an EV on a single charge, with an ID.7 Pro S with a standard technology package and 210 kW (286 PS) covering a distance of 941 kilometres. This significantly exceeded the model’s maximum WLTP range (combined) of up to 709 kilometres by 232 kilometres or 32.7 percent. During the 941-kilometre tour, the ID.7 Pro S had an average consumption of just 9.2 kWh/100 km – an exceptionally low figure. Converted to a diesel equivalent, the average consumption achieved in Nardò corresponds to about just 1 litre per 100 km. The aim of the test in Nardò was to determine the maximum efficiency of the ID.7 Pro S introduced in 2024.

Volkswagen’s fully electric ID.7 has beaten its own range record in efficiency tests. A standard ID.7 Pro S with no technical modifications was tested on a circuit in Nardò, southern Italy and achieved 584 miles (941km) of range. The figure significantly exceeded the model’s official WLTP combined figure of 440 miles (709km) by 144 miles (232km) or 32.7%. #VolkswagenID7 https://lnkd.in/gB_RdYU8

Volkswagen has set a new range record for the ID 7 after driving 587 miles on a single charge. The previous record stood at 493 miles, achieved on public roads in Zurich, Swizerland. The latest record was set at the Nardò test track, in Northern Italy. A Volkswagen ID 7 Pro S was used for the test, which has a WLTP range of 440 miles. The test car did not undergo any form of technical modification for the test, but instead came from current production at the Emden electromobility plant. The car was driven for 33 hours, at an average speed of 18mph. It achieved 6.75mi/kWh during the test. Volkswagen said the aim of the experiment was to determine the maximum efficiency of the ID 7 Pro S and claims the average speed correlates to typical inner-city driving. The drive took place in December with ambient temperatures of 15 degrees.

Hyundai and Kia present a conundrum for US dealers right now. They get great product leading to strong sales and (relative to other manufacturers right now) solid margins but, have to manage increasingly challenging OEM behavior and requirements (their words not ours). For now, most see the benefit of riding it out, but we are seeing others reducing their exposure to these manufacturers and divesting of a Hyundai or Kia store or two while valuations are so strong.

Chinese OEMs witnessed their share of the West European new BEV passenger car market reach double-digit penetration for the first time on a quarterly basis, according to a new Chinese OEM study published by Schmidt Automotive Research this week. The most recent quarter, Q2 2024, included a number of anomalies, however, that helped it reach this record high point, which is underlined in the report, and why this level isn't likely sustainable in the mid-term.

I recently went through an insightful article by Tung Nguyen from Drive.com.au, published this month, discussing the Winners and Losers of Australia’s record-breaking new-car sales in 2024. Here is my quick breakdown: Positive Outcomes: - Hybrids Continue to Rise: Hybrid vehicle sales jumped an impressive 76% in 2024, with plug-in hybrids adding to the growth. Together, they accounted for nearly 16% of all new-car sales. - Toyota's Dominance: With over 241,000 vehicles sold, Toyota maintained its top spot, driven by the enduring popularity of the RAV4 and HiLux. - Ford's Milestone: Ford surpassed 100,000 sales for the first time in decades, led by the Ranger and Everest. - BYD's Growth: Although falling short of its ambitious goals, BYD still grew 64.5%, thanks to models like the Seal, Sealion, and Dolphin. - Mitsubishi’s Strong Showing: Sales rose 17.4%, driven by robust demand for the Outlander and ASX. Developing Outcomes: - Volkswagen Group Adjustments: Brands like VW, Skoda, and Audi faced declines due to model changeovers, but exciting new launches are on the horizon for 2025. - Mazda’s Momentum Shift: Sales dipped slightly, but new CX-70 and CX-80 models are expected to bring a rebound. - Jeep's Challenges: Jeep's Australian sales continued to decline, with a near 50% drop. However, refreshed models aim to reignite interest. - Genesis' Uphill Battle: Hyundai's luxury brand saw a 26.9% decrease, highlighting the need for stronger differentiation in the competitive premium market. - LDV’s Limited Growth: A 24.8% decline in sales highlights challenges in balancing commercial focus with broader market appeal. The industry’s shift toward electrification and the launch of new models will undoubtedly shape 2025. Check out the new models and release dates headed for Australian shores in 2025 here: https://lnkd.in/gh-sV-w8
