Each year, approximately 1.7 million Americans are affected by sepsis, and a staggering one-third of patients who pass away from sepsis, had it during their hospitalization. This highlights the urgent need for effective strategies and interventions to combat this life-threatening condition. In 2023, Hoda Asmar, MD, MBA, chief clinical officer, reported that our care initiatives aimed at decreasing sepsis mortality saved an estimated 1,250 lives. Our updated procedure incorporates a standardized order set for blood tests, fluid resuscitation, blood pressure management and the critical step of early antibiotics within one hour of sepsis identification are key parts of our approach to saving sepsis patients lives. 🌟 QI Week - Exciting Update on Our Deteriorating Patients Programme! 🌟 🔍 Phase 2 Focus: Sepsis 🔍 Did you know that Sepsis affects at least 245,000 people in the UK each year, with up to 48,000 deaths annually? Those who survive often face life-changing after-effects. Sepsis is a severe response to infection that can cause organ dysfunction and claims more lives than many well-known diseases combined. Our Acute Areas are working together on improvements in training, communication and practice to ensure the early identification and treatment of sepsis to enhance patient outcomes. Teams are using the Sepsis Six Pathway to support the delivery of timely, life-saving care. Stay tuned as we continue to drive change and improve patient care across the Trust! 💙 #QualityCare #patientsafety #HealthcareExcellence #SepsisAwareness #continuousimprovement #teamwork Solent Academy of Research & Improvement

September is #SepsisAwarenessMonth! Reflecting on my critical care experience, here are Top 10 key lessons I’ve learned about sepsis that every clinician should keep in mind. ⬇️ 1. Sepsis is not a final diagnosis; it’s a trigger to find the cause 2. Sepsis is the greatest mimic and is mimicked by many 3. No sign is the sine qua non of sepsis 4. Sepsis is not a diagnosis of exclusion 5. Elevated lactate is not always septic shock 6. Rapid source control can be as important as antibiotics 7. Antibiotics should be timely, but de-escalation is equally important 8. Negative blood cultures do not exclude sepsis 9. Sepsis and septic shock are time-sensitive emergencies 10. Fluid resuscitation: more is not always better. #Sepsis #Septicshock #CriticalCare #MedTwitter #FOAMed #FOAMcc #Antibiotics

Sepsis Survivor Week is an awareness week dedicated to highlighting the experiences of individuals who have survived sepsis, as well as raising awareness about sepsis prevention, recognition, and treatment. Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that occurs when the body's response to infection causes widespread inflammation, leading to organ dysfunction and failure. Survivors of sepsis often face long-term physical, emotional, and psychological challenges as they recover from the illness. During Sepsis Survivor Week, various organizations, healthcare professionals, and advocates may host events, share resources, and provide support to survivors and their loved ones. The week may also involve educational initiatives aimed at increasing public understanding of sepsis and its symptoms, as well as promoting early detection and timely treatment. #himont #awareness #health #survıvor #pharma

Today is #WorldSepsisDay And there are 3 things to know about Sepsis. It’s: 1. Deadly 2. Time-dependent 3. Everyone needs to recognize symptoms You can’t prevent Sepsis but you can make everyone – healthcare professional & the general public - aware of what to do if this potentially fatal disease is suspected. Know that risk of death from sepsis goes up 9% for every hour ⌛ of delay in administering appropriate treatment*. At bioMérieux our job is to help healthcare professionals like Prof. Dr. Jan De Waele optimize diagnostics so that they can diagnose and manage sepsis earlier. Earlier treatment supports better patient outcomes and diagnostics is key 🔑. Together, let’s ensure that we ALL work to reducing the devastating consequences of sepsis. Join me in raising awareness of World Sepsis Day. Thank you, Ilse Malfait, for sharing your sepsis story! * Liu VX et al., American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, 2017 #OptimizeDiagnostics #SepsisManagement #WorldSepsisDay

World Sepsis Day, observed on **September 13th**, aims to raise awareness about sepsis, a life-threatening condition that occurs when the body's response to infection causes widespread inflammation, leading to organ failure and death if not treated promptly. This day emphasizes the importance of early recognition and treatment of sepsis, which can significantly improve survival rates. It also highlights the global burden of sepsis, affecting millions of people each year, particularly in low-resource settings. By promoting education and awareness, World Sepsis Day encourages healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the public to take action in preventing, identifying, and managing sepsis to save lives. Sepsis kills more people than heart attacks and stroke combined and yet we have no dedicated in-hospital sepsis response teams. MI and stroke patients have a dedicated team that arrive at their bedside within minutes and sepsis does not. Also in need of out patient sepsis clinics that GP's can refer patients on to that are at higher risk of developing sepsis for closer monitoring. Time to invest in sepsis if we want to see results. #sepsis #prevention #notrocketscience #realaction #resources
