When people see themselves reflected in a park — their cultures, languages, identities —they come back. That’s when the connection moves beyond an initial introduction and into a sense of belonging. Developed in 2020, the playground at Hope D. Wall School on Aurora's West Side aims to do just that. The expansive play area represents a state-of-the-art, ADA-accessible amenity that provides recreation and play opportunities for members in the community with special needs. The park serves Hope Wall students first, and is open to the community on evenings and weekends. National Recreation and Park Association #WhereYouBelong #ParkandRecMonth #ParkandRecMonth24

It is essential that kids develop empathy early on. Fortunately, there are many ways that empathy-building fits naturally into recreation programming that kids already love. Building community with peers and developing positive mentorship relationships with adults are good building blocks for being in touch with the emotions and experiences of others. #empathy #lifeskills #mentorship #outdoorrecreation #positiveyouthdevelopment #youthrecreation #youthsports #healthycompetition https://lnkd.in/gFBsTDVD

However, it’s important for young professionals to share their insights and ideas because they bring fresh perspectives and innovative approaches to the industry. Moreover, statistics show that the number of young professionals in parks and recreation is increasing, with a growing number of individuals under the age of 35 joining the field. The second of the 11 common #placemaking mistakes may be a bit challenging and controversial for some. 'Plonk' in British or Australian English (or 'Plunk' in the US) is an informal term than means "to put something down heavily and without taking care". *Plonk placemaking* means physically ‘plonking’ a potentially good idea in a space: ❌ because it worked somewhere else ❌ without engaging local people ❌ with little care or consideration ❌ with no follow up engagement or subsequent actions If money is no issue, sure, go for it! But, in most cases, placemaking budgets will be limited, and this approach is unlikely to deliver the best outcomes. It can be tokenistic and is unlikely to drive real change. The risk is delivering 'orphan' interventions that no-one cares about or is invested in. There are another 9 more common mistakes to come. The impact of nature and parks on well-being is profound, offering numerous psychological, physical, and social benefits. Being in nature has been shown to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and improve mood. Parks provide a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of urban life, allowing individuals to reconnect with the natural world. The presence of green spaces in communities can foster a sense of tranquility and contribute to overall mental health, making these areas invaluable for maintaining a balanced, healthy lifestyle. For young people growing up in this generation, the benefits of nature and parks are particularly significant. In an era dominated by digital technology and screen time, regular exposure to natural environments can promote physical activity, creativity, and social interaction. Parks provide safe spaces for play and exploration, fostering developmental growth and a sense of adventure. Additionally, experiences in nature can instill a sense of environmental stewardship and responsibility in young people, shaping a generation that values and protects the natural world. By highlighting these benefits, the film can inspire families, educators, and policymakers to invest in and advocate for accessible, well-maintained parks and green spaces for the well-being of future generations. https://lnkd.in/eZHEEsTb

In the world of parkour, falling is not synonymous with failure; rather, it’s an integral part of the learning process. Parkour practitioners understand that every stumble is an opportunity to refine their technique and build resilience. For parents, witnessing their child navigate the challenges of parkour can understandably evoke concern. However, it’s essential to recognize that falling is a natural aspect of any physical activity, and in a controlled environment with proper supervision, it can be a valuable teacher. By embracing falls as learning experiences and fostering a supportive atmosphere, parents can encourage their children to explore their capabilities safely while building confidence and determination. #parkour #kidsparkour #mumbaiparkour #kidsactivities
