Framingham is so lucky to have such great educators in our district and this just attests to it! We had not one, not two, but THREE honorees at the Annual Celebration Honoring Excellence in Teaching hosted by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) on May 7th. Both Debra Regensburger and Laura Weiss were honored accounting for two of the five Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) 2024 Massachusetts State Finalists. Katie Mansfield was honored for being a Teacher of the Year Finalist for 2024. Congratulations to all of these incredible educators that we are so lucky to say work for FPS! So true. I will always be an advocate for PBL. Students want relevance and impact in their learning. Most kids can’t believe how fast time progresses in my class. They are engaged in what they are learning and doing—it has meaning and impact in their lives and their communities. Autonomy, choice, voice, community impact, and being able to marry that with content brings magic 🪄 to the classroom. Every age. Every stage. PBL is the way to flexible learning styles for all learners. #NVSTOY24

Did You Know? In early February, a prominent Ivy League university announced it was reviving the requirement for high school applicants to submit standardized test scores as part of the admissions process. According to an internal report, produced by four Dartmouth faculty members, test scores are an "essential method by which Admissions can identify applicants who will succeed" and also find "high-achieving, less-advantaged" students beyond recommendations and high school grades, which are subject to inconsistency and bias. The claim is that standardized test scores are a more accurate predictor of first-year college GPA, and by extension, standardized success. First, how do we define academic success, and more importantly, what is the aim of our teaching? As educators, we are called to pour in and draw out from hearts and minds, thus bringing forth justice, mercy, and faith. Will we transform the scales? #DifferentRules
