GRANTS! Alzheimer's Research UK Inspire Fund - deadline 14th October / info webinar 17th September The seed funding call is open to new applicants to the Inspire Fund. We encourage applications from people, organisations and communities with ideas, passion and ability to realise innovative public engagement projects on the topic of dementia. From those within or outside the research community, those with a track record in public engagement and those looking to apply their skills to this important issue for the first time. Through the scheme, we want to build relationships between communities and researchers, and are especially interested in proposals led by community groups or organisations. We strongly encourage applicants to forge links with collaborators or groups to strengthen ideas. We recognise this can take time, and will be supporting relationship building in funded projects. Projects can use a range of methods to engage with their audience. We encourage applicants to consider their audience when selecting methods of engagement, to ensure people are able to take part. https://lnkd.in/e8vddmrn

MS research has come so far already, and we know much more than we did 30 years ago. But there’s still more to learn. We’re funding exciting research right now by providing grants that allow researchers to find new ways to help everyone with MS. These grants are called Catalyst grants and enable research projects you might not have heard of before. Throwback to one of our 'Tilt Classics'... The Brief 📄 How can you move people to really understand Alzheimer’s Disease, see the life-saving importance of drug development, and motivate them to donate? Alzheimer’s Research UK told us about the lack of tools available to engage the public in learning about the different stages of medical research. While there are several short leaflets available, there was no interactive educational tool that took people through the entire research process. Our Solution 💡 We developed the Lab, an experiential site that takes users on a journey through the drug development process and help them to understand through interaction. We packed an emotional punch by personalising the experience because we know that people absorb information better when emotionally connected. https://lnkd.in/eF3m8XQU #WebDesign #Experiences #Learning

We’re one step closer to a simple blood test that the NHS could use to diagnose dementia within five years, meaning more people will get an accurate diagnosis much earlier. Today Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer's Research UK announce two world-class research teams who will capitalise on recent breakthroughs in potential dementia blood tests, and generate the evidence needed for them to be used in the NHS within the next 5 years. Made up of researchers from Dementias Platform UK based at the University of Oxford and University College London, the teams will carry out countrywide trials to identify accurate and quick blood tests. The teams make up the Blood Biomarker Challenge - a multi-million pound award given by Alzheimer’s Society, Alzheimer’s Research UK and the National Institute for Health and Care Research and Gates Ventures, including £5m raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. Dr Vanessa Raymont from Dementias UK Platform at University of Oxford explain why this research is so important. Cure Alzheimer's Fund Annual Report 2023. Access the 60-page report at https://lnkd.in/dujk_Bxz. Highlights: 1) CureAlz funded 147 researchers in 11 countries with a new record for total research spending of S27.8 million-Meg Smith 2) I have the privilege of working with the most extraordinary group of researchers who have dedicated their professional lives to taking on the demands of solving what is arguably the most challenging disease facing humanity: Alzheimer's disease. Deciphering and intervening in the slow destruction of the brain and loss of self requires a rigorous scientific process with a community of researchers who embody fortitude, determination, patience-and even fearlessness- Dr. Rudolph Tanzi 3) The support from Cure Alzheimer's Fund has enabled us to explore high-risk, high-reward topics that would not be funded by more traditional funding mechanisms, but hold the potential to make a transformative difference in both our understanding as well as the treatment of Alzheimer's disease -John Lukens 4) Cure Alzheimer's Fund support sparked a collaboration between two investigators who on the surface appear to study two totally different topics. Together we teamed up to think about Alzheimer's disease from a new perspective- Anna Greka, MD, PhD
