School officials in Florida have banned a book about book banning (seriously) — adding to the long list of titles that have been challenged in recent years. If the First Amendment protects free speech (which includes books), how is this possible?

Very interesting summary of #education and #dei-related bills proposed in several states.
The 2024 state legislative sessions have been so full of bad legislation that it’s been hard to keep track of it all. Here’s a writeup of six bills we’re watching at PEN America -- two in Florida, but also bills in Iowa, Indiana, Oklahoma, and a new law in Utah. https://lnkd.in/eQ4t9B37 .

If you were looking for (another) reason to question SCOTUS's originalist tendencies, check out this fantastic piece by my colleague Chihiro!
#SCOTUS is continuing to roll back the constitution to a fictional past in service of a regressive political agenda. Its #originalist fiction of a “colorblind” constitution in #SFFA has continued to encourage a nationwide attack on race-inclusive policies, from #DEI to #environmentaljustice. The Republicans in Congress do not know how to hold constructive hearings where the guests giving their testimony have an opportunity to respond fully or sometimes even complete a sentence. Suggestions: if you respectfully ask a question then give the person an opportunity to answer your question respectfully. Otherwise it shows a lack of respect on the part of the questioner. If you allow 5 minutes for questioning per committee member then allow 5 minutes to respond to those questions for a total of 10 minutes per question & answer session from each committee member. Right now it looks like scolding sessions instead of open dialogue. How about the U.S. Congress act as an example of civil discourse? At least in its committee hearings? JTB 5-23-24

The recent Supreme Court decision on the Chevron doctrine will reshape K-12 education policy, with courts taking a more active role in interpreting laws like Title IX and IDEA. Educators and policymakers must stay alert to evolving legal landscapes. Check out Howard Fulfrost's perspective. #SupremeCourt #EducationPolicy #LegalInterpretations

Since we are on a teaching understanding - lets talk checks and balance systems - the sign of the scales we need to be discussing. https://lnkd.in/gUWSehmx This is what we teach children on the education of our Congressional rights. We as citizens are to make sure we help the mis understandings and reflect awareness to be addressed as a show on media performances and in hidden ads, example in Youtube, and then the confusion of the immediate need for change in currency - de funked fundraising tactics. Yet the children's and adults les abled ask why is there no change? Were all a little but mad hatter but the ones with true mental challenges need addressed to council or consulting. Its why we like teaching in lets say cupcakes wars; its chemistry and politics in the kitchen. On November 5, 2024, Americans will go to the polls to elect the president. Voters will choose between one Democrat, one Republican, and any third-party candidates who qualify for the ballot. So, how do the two major parties choose their nominees? The process begins months before Election Day, as candidates build their campaign organizations, raise money, and participate in a series of televised debates. Their goal? To win the support of voters in state primaries and caucuses. In our latest Current Issue now available to subscribers, we outline the system of primaries and caucuses, examine the significant role that two states—Iowa and New Hampshire—play in the process, and challenge you to consider whether there is reason to change the nominating calendar. https://lnkd.in/d7GgTimA #CloseUpDC #CurrentIssues #IowaCaucuses
