I left Riga four years ago, and now I come here a couple of times a month. And today, while going for a morning jog, I decided to look at the city not as a professional, but as just a tourist runner. I ran from Kipsala, through the Quiet Center to Skanstes and back. And suddenly I noticed how much Riga had changed! How beautiful the new office buildings on Skanstes are. Modern urban environment, beautiful architecture, high ambitions. Everything I dreamed of 10 years ago has been built or is being built today. Ok, not all, but definitely half! But when I finished, the boring professional spoke in my head again. The vacancy level, demographic problems, comparison with other Baltic capitals... And new challenges lie ahead - the geopolitical situation, the outflow of institutional investors, the economic situation. Staizen - First Asia Company Party in Philippines! ✨ We've always believed in the power of strong bonds and meaningful connections. Reflecting on our epic first Asia Company Party in the Philippines, it's a celebration that holds extra significance for us. 🇵🇭🌏 Fun fact! Staizen emerged during the challenging times of the pandemic in the end of year 2019 which meant that we are fully remote from the start. It's remarkable how we've managed to flourish. We now have about 100 staizeners within 5 offices globally but this was our first time being able to gather our whole asia team in person 🎉 Global virtual meetings often miss the social vibes we get from meeting diverse cultures in person. Our Philippines trip was memorable because we got to see first hand the care, hospitality and hype-up fun of the Filipino culture. The real handshakes and hugs, talks, and the chance to swap cultures between our Filipino, Singaporean, Malaysian, American, and French colleagues were moments you just don't get in virtual settings. The Asia Company Party was definitely a turning point. It showcased the importance of blending in-person interactions with digital innovation. The top nine 'improving' cities are all in eastern Member States, led by Białystok, Gdańsk and Cluj-Napoca. ◾ Check out data on areas influencing quality of life such as employment, housing, public spaces, green spaces, public transport, cultural facilities, healthcare, cleanliness, air and noise quality, and local public administration.

When a massive island-wide blackout took place on September 19, 1950, Fort Canning Lighthouse served as the only constant source of light for the city." Working with Nick Misani on the deco of Swan's new headquarters was so fun. We had a tornado of ideas related to our business, our tech, and even inside jokes, and he helped many of them come to life. I especially love the code on our meeting room doors. Swan's meeting rooms are quite typically named after European countries. That alone is not unique — but we took it further! We wanted to give a feeling of our tech culture and give a fun nod to the "localization" that is so important to what makes Swan different. Bear with me while I talk about banking features :) Swan allows companies to offer banking features to their customers, embedded into their own product: accounts with IBANs, cards with their own logo. And it's all localized: A Spanish company wants to offer Spanish accounts, with IBANs that start with "ES", with Spanish T&Cs, following Spanish laws. Every time we launch an office in a new country, we build up localized accounts for that country, with local IBANs. 📍 No, it's not so easy that a developer can just say "Let's add new letters!" 🤡 Swan goes through a long process to get local accounts and local IBANs set up in each country. So far, we already have IBANs starting with DE, ES, FR, NL, and IT is next. My IBAN is: FR76 3000.... haha JK. I'm not giving that to you — fraudsters! So, anyway, When a developer is building banking features into an app, they connect to our API. And there is specific code that allows to create local IBANs. We put that code across our meeting room doors.  The "Italian" room has the code for creating a local Italian IBAN starting with "IT," etc. That's just one of the details we put into the office, but there are many more, all over the place. I've always loved the idea of being an entrepreneur but have never felt like I had "the right" idea to start something on my own. That's one of the many reasons I love working at The Executive Centre -- we are always being pushed to innovate and are given the platform to create new business opportunities. Last year I launched our in house creative agency #TECCreate, which offers full service creative and production capabilities to our Members, partners, and even external clients. Most recently we had the opportunity to support one of our landlord partners Singapore Land Group Limited and collaborated with them to develop a video series to document the inspirational refurbishment of their iconic Singapore Land Tower in the heart of Singapore's CBD. Worldwide, buildings are responsible for 37% of global carbon emissions and 34% of energy demand. Other environmental impacts of buildings include resource depletion, air, water and land pollution and biodiversity loss. I'm so pleased that we're really starting to see an investment in green buildings, but to build a new sustainable building is a lot easier than bringing an old one up to the current #ESG standards. One of the biggest challenges that the corporate real estate industry faces is our mature assets, and often the solution is to just tear old assets down and start again, but what impact does that have on the environment? LOTS of waste. That's why I find this project so inspiring; instead of tearing down a 40 year old icon, Singapore Land Group decided to refurbish it from the ground up, with their tenants still inside. This first video introduces the vision and strategy behind this approach, and I encourage you to take a look because it shows what impact can truly be made when people are willing to invest both the time and resources. Lesson here: the harder road will take more time, often more money, but the long term impact will be much more significant. #ESG #sustainability #singapore #buildings #futureofwork
