Last week, I had the honor of giving a keynote at the inaugural Budapest Automotive Summit, an event that aspired to close a gap in today’s discussions about the #automotive industry by addressing the commercial side: importers, dealers, and marketers. I addressed the prospects of the European automotive industry: How real is the threat posed by Chinese entrants? How can European automotive respond to this threat in addition to other significant challenges such as the rapid transition to electric vehicles (#EVs) on a grand scale? I argued that the foundations of European automotive are solid, and we have a lot to be proud of and to build on. However, we cannot be complacent; there are a lot of areas that European automotive should accelerate (e.g., reviving the strength of our customer understanding, as well as product, brand, and design, not to mention closing the software skill gap so we can master the #digital automotive transition). Wrapping up another great experience at Automotive World Japan 2024 in Tokyo. Being out there on each specific market is so important, to understand the different needs and demands from our customers. This was yet again, a great opportunity to meet with our partners and potentials partners, discussing how we can help create a safer future on a global scale. Showcasing our advanced automotive technologies like TPI, LWI, RSA, and RSC here in Tokyo was a got a great response from industry leaders and enthusiasts from across the world, reinforcing our belief that together, we can make a significant impact. Yet again, a big takeaway is the fact that sensor fusion is growing in interest. There is a will and drive to be more sustainable and try to come up with solutions that minimize the amount of sensors you equip a car with, keep the environmental impact at a minimum, without compromizing the functionality and performance. The engagement and feedback from customers and industry partners drive us to continuously evolve and tailor our solutions to meet the diverse needs of a global audience. 🎸 “The automotive industry will dance to rock & roll for a while.” 🎶 Last week, I had the honor of attending for the first time the Reuters Events Automotive Europe 2024 conference in Munich where Mr. Tavares, CEO of Stellantis group, during a compelling opening keynote, perfectly captured the industry’s current dynamism with his above-mentioned metaphor. The conference spanned two days of highly engaging talks led by senior industry leaders and truly insightful discussions that delved into crucial topics shaping the automotive landscape. Here are a few key takeaways: 🔋 The future is electric, even though hybrid vehicles still play a crucial role during the transition. 🏭 OEMs have to focus on producing electric vehicles that are affordable, yet profitable. ⚡ eMSPs and CPOs need to ensure adequate charging infrastructure. However, it isn’t only about volumes; positioning, reliability, and interoperability matters. 📜 Policymakers should facilitate the transition towards electrification, providing stability rather than exacerbating the current turmoil. Amidst the transformative time, there are glimmers of opportunity. I am eager to contribute to this evolution by offering practical advice to navigate the forthcoming challenges, and I look forward to further discussions and collaborations as we steer towards a more safe, affordable, and environmentally friendly automotive future. #REAutoEU #MoreTogether
