For our last check-in from our stay in Astypalea, we are bringing you a voice from the community! 🌿 Talking with us was Lambrini Grigori, a born and raised Astypalean and the Dean of Astypalea's Gymnasium. Like many islanders, she has spent the majority of her life in the community, with the exception of her university studies. Lamrini shared that, as with most novelties, people were skeptical at first about projects related to sustainability and e-mobility. However, external stakeholders and the local government ensured that the people were well informed about what was going on. 🤔 Reflecting on the introduction of e-mobility to Astypalea, she said: "This was a chance to show that although we are a small island and far apart from central Greece, we can become a role model. They explained to the people what this project is about, which helped us understand what it could bring to the island. Of course, we are a very small place, so we need to be very aware of the progress made because we want to maintain our traditional character, our picturesque island—we don't want this to change." 🔹️We believe that energy transition must be an inclusive process, not only a just one. This also means addressing concerns and working towards a shared vision - and that is why communities deserve a spotlight of their own. Last week, our colleagues Verena Mutz and David Hick had the opportunity to visit beautiful Ioannina as part of the CLIMABOROUGH General Assembly in Greece.☀ Our part in this meeting? 👉 In collaboration with the Politenico di Milano (Grazia Concilio & Matteo Giacomelli), the University of Aalborg (Nicola Morelli and Rike Neuhoff), the Gerics Center (Chiara Bernardini) and the Urban Lab Torino (Francesca Bena, Jeanne Bellec), we conducted several co-creative workshops with the cities. 👉 The aim of the workshop “Envisioning - The day after the #sandbox”: looking into the future of the urban experiments within the sandbox and presenting (possible) results of the experiments from the mayors' point of view in order to anticipate potential challenges, obstacles, limitations and possibilities to overcome them. 👉 In addition, we conducted a further workshop with the partners in which the cities were asked to identify actors involved in the experiment within the city administration. What did we achieve? 🗣 Enabling cities to interact with each other and critically discuss their experiments. 💡 Gaining a better understanding of the planned experiments and individual solutions from the cities' perspective. Whats next? The task of the work package leaders will now be to provide close support to the cities during implementation, with the aim of using the experiments to influence efforts to achieve greater #climateneutrality. Hello from Astypalea, the butterfly of the Aegean! 🌊🦋 Not only is this island well known for its history and traditional architecture, but it is also on its path to becoming the first carbon-neutral, sustainable Greek island! Driving this change is a community committed to, first and foremost, preserving the nature and beauty of the island itself. In these efforts, Astypalea is the first in implementing e-mobility projects, advocating participatory planning projects that include the citizens, and expanding on other projects that will bring Astypalea closer to the 100% RES (renewable energy sources) vision! 🌿 FES Athens, Croatia, and Dialogue SOE are on Astypalea for 2 days to encourage best practice exchange among similar communities, EcoIslands, as a follow-up to last year's exchange we had in Croatia. We have already heard great inputs on Croatia's path to 100% RES, best practices of energy communities, and all the different energy transition projects run on Astypalea. 🔹️In the words of Astypalea's mayor, Nikolaos Komineas: "We are not pioneers in thinking; we don't need to think about this first, but we are pioneers in doing!"
