Volunteerism is important! Every January, volunteers dedicate their time to conduct the crucial Point-in-Time Count, capturing a snapshot of homelessness in our communities. This effort guides services and funding, ensuring those in need receive help. Huge thanks to every volunteer for their invaluable contribution. Your work does not go unnoticed and is essential for making a difference. Luckily I've been supported by jurisdictions like City of Montebello, City of Garden Grove and 4LEAF, Inc. to assist in this yearly count! Being boots on the ground is important because if you as a person have to deal with this issue you are able to understand why some folks become homeless and struggle to escape or why some choose to live on the streets. Every story is unique. As we assist jurisdictions we realize that there are solutions to help folks get off the street or guide them to other places like navigating centers, shelters, housing vouchers, Section 8, etc. Kudos to County/Local Departments of Human or Social Services, nearby church organizations, social service non-profits, libraries, food pantries, and many others that hold the fort down year round to assist.

I volunteered at The Hoboken Shelter, and it was an awesome experience. It taught me how even my (1 person) participation can make a difference to those in need, and importantly making things easy for everyone so that people can utilize the services effectively! I spent the day sorting through donations, which included separating three HUGE bags of bread donated by local bakeries. This task involved separating the good bread from the stale. After that, I teamed up with another volunteer and made sure that pastries, soap bars, and other food items were portioned properly so that people could easily collect and use them. Putting hygiene protocols into action makes a difference between people consuming and adhering to them. It’s all about making things easy- not just about access or education. I also helped with behind-the-scenes efforts in washing kitchen towels and aprons for the staff and volunteers. It’s not just help for the needy. This experience taught me how much of a difference even just one person volunteering can make - drops make an ocean. I also learned that one should focus on operations and make things easy for all involved so that adherence is effective. Most importantly, I made friends with other volunteers, and it was overall a fun experience that involved giving back to my community. Make an impact in someone’s life today. Be a Do-Gooder and get involved- lead through action! #Volunteering #DoGooder #CommunityService

It's not about how much time you have, it's how you spend it. One of my team members had a goal to volunteer, but couldn't figure out when to do it even with Volunteer Time Off time allowed. I suggested they pick a day, request the time off now and plan to volunteer at that time. This morning, I volunteered at Hope Helps to pack bags of food for local children so they can have food during spring break. We packed 182 bags. How do you find ways to turn time into quality time? #volunteering #timemanagement #qualitytime

For his love initiave Volunteering during wars and crises is crucial for providing immediate support to those affected. Volunteers offer essential services such as food, medical aid, and shelter, helping to alleviate suffering in dire situations. Their efforts can foster resilience and hope within communities facing devastation. Additionally, volunteering in such times promotes solidarity and unity among people, demonstrating the power of collective action. Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in the lives of displaced people. we distributed 1,000 sandwiches to people who left their homes and took the road, 35 loaves of bread for two schools, 36 pieces of clothing. Accordingly, the total amount of aid provided by individual initiative becomes 1,604. Thanks to everyone that contributed in making this work possible.🤍

QCOSS is leading the ‘Make Queensland Fair’ campaign to shine a light on the cost of living crisis affecting everyday Queenslanders and the resulting increase in demand for front-line-services. Volunteering Queensland highlights that a direct consequence of the cost-of-living crisis is the worrying decline in volunteers who report that volunteering has become unaffordable. The increasing cost of living is undoubtedly a significant contributing factor in reducing the number of people who have the time or capacity to volunteer, as they instead require more employment to make up for an income deficit or simply don’t have the disposable income to support their volunteering. Given that close to half of all charities rely solely on volunteers to operate, it is essential the Queensland Government does all it can to enable volunteers to help those experiencing vulnerability and need in our community.
