🌏 Today we presented our new "Sustainability Council” in #Berlin. This independent advisory body supports us since 2016, regarding strategic topics of #sustainability. The committee is made up of #experts from science, politics, and civil society. The CEO of Volkswagen Group, Oliver Blume, welcomes new impulses for sustainability, check out his comment:

Majority of employees in Germany still want rapid steps towards a sustainable industry. But approval is declining. Three points are crucial to reversing the trend: job prospects, fairness, and social cohesion - these are the results of our latest study at the Wittenberg-Zentrum für Globale Ethik Renata Jungo Brüngger and Sabine Kohleisen explained in Dresden how Mercedes-Benz AG is meeting these expectations: With clear commitments 1️⃣ to sustainable innovations – 100% renewables and 0 emissions remain the ambition 2039, 2️⃣ to Germany as business location – Kamenz is MBs global lead plant for battery production 3️⃣ to freedom, respect and global cooperation – sustainable transformation needs democratic societies. Yesterday, I had the privilege of meeting with Cecilia Warrol, Programchef at Produktion2030 and Programme Director at Teknikföretagen l.Together with Anna Öhrwall Rönnbäck, we had an interesting conversation about the significant challenges facing the Swedish industry in maintaining competitiveness and sustainability in the coming decades. A key focus of our discussion was the role that young researchers play in shaping the industry's future. By building robust academic networks and fostering collaborations, especially with the SME sector. We're in a fast-changing, global economy that requires collaboration for a sustainable society globally and in Sweden. Katharina Hartmann, a graduate of the TUM School of Management and CEO of Hartmann Möbelwerke GmbH, is all too familiar with these demands. As the fourth generation to lead her family's company, she recognizes the importance of two key factors for success: #sustainability and #local production. ☀️ Long before Katharina took the helm, her father had already initiated the company’s sustainability journey by installing photovoltaic panels on the factory roof. Both father and daughter share a strong commitment to sustainability and local sourcing, and the results of this approach are evident. 🏆 Hartmann Möbelwerke has been honored with two prestigious German awards: 👉 the Global Transition Award from Handelsblatt and the 👉 German Sustainability Award, both recognizing her dedication to sustainable practices. The 63rd Dornbirn-GFC2024 has come to a close after three insightful days. Industry leaders shared their perspectives on next-gen materials and the manufacturing challenges we face, and I deeply respect their insights! Academic institutions and startups collaborated to advance scale-up journeys (acknowledging the many challenges ahead). The master session on elastane/ Lycra’s impact on textile recycling also provided valuable insights for further reflection. Most importantly, the conference was rich with networking opportunities. A huge thank you to all the new and familiar faces with whom we spent quality time reflecting on challenges and exploring collaboration opportunities. In every industry, competition is an unspoken reality. The current global landscape, particularly in the textile industry, faces tensions from geopolitical strains, trade wars, and national rivalries. In such a complex environment, finding common ground and building trust can be difficult. However, events like this remind us that collaboration and mutual understanding are essential. The power of collaboration is key to lifting one another toward a sustainable future. Thanks again to all the contributors who made Dornbirn-GFC so impactful. Hart, who will present at our conference on The Coming Automotive Supply Chain:  Sustainable and Profitable, wrote the book(s) on how companies can solve many of the world’s biggest problems, and he did it early in the 21st century!  The book, “Capitalism at the Crossroads: The Unlimited Business Opportunities in Solving the World's Most Difficult Problems,” was published in 2007 and is unique because  is it “takes the contrarian's view that business--more than either government or civil society--is uniquely equipped, at this point in history, to lead us toward a sustainable world in the years ahead."  Stuart is now  Professor in Residence at the University of Michigan - Erb Institute for Global Sustainable Enterprise and will provide his update on the work he’s spent his career writing and teaching about.  We’re looking forward to his remarks to start off our #conference on Wednesday, February 21st.  Register for the conference at our website:  www.automotivefutures.org.
