Day 2, International Women’s Week.  An alternative to inspiration and theory - here’s another, practical, tested tactic to drive results.  #4 of 5.  Assign the women in your teams SPONSORS.  These are people of influence inside your organization who can advocate for your person to be promoted, get top bonus pay, get new opportunities. A sponsor will connect them with other leaders or emerging leaders to build skills for the next steps.  They need someone (as Carla Harris says) who knows the ‘good, the good and the good’ and who will share the person's story and carry their flag in talent roundtables and rooms with closed doors. What a powerful session we had at Diversity Blueprint: Reinventing Board Composition workshop yesterday! Led by Lara Oyedele ✊🏽 🍉, Chief Executive Officer at Black On Board Ltd, the conversations were bold, the insights were transformative, and together, we’ve taken a major step towards reshaping the future of leadership in the housing sector.     This isn’t just about ticking boxes—it’s about truly redefining what diversity means at the board level, pushing the boundaries of recruitment strategies, and embracing cultural competence as a driving force for better decision-making.     A massive thank you to everyone who joined us—your engagement and willingness to challenge the status quo have laid the groundwork for lasting change.     But the conversation doesn’t stop here. Thanks Tunde Hinton for another amazing learning and networking opportunity through Connex Leadership Networks . This was a favourite of mine as I got to meet the absolute queen of social housing justice Lara Oyedele ✊🏽 🍉. Among other topics, we delved deep into what needs to happen to improve the identification, selection and appointment of a more diverse pool of talent into the industry. #Attraction and #Recruitment: In construction the application-to-hiring ratio is notably higher for ethnic minority groups (90:1) compared to white applicants (28:1), making it on average three times more challenging to secure a position. People who make up the global ethnic majority are not a conglomerate and there is variance in this picture that warrants further exploration and consideration. When broken down it is between 1.2 to 6.4 times harder for people of colour to be hired than their white counterparts highlighting the unearned and unjustified benefits of proximity to whiteness and the pernicious nature of anti-black racism. It was great to be in a room full of people dedicated to changing this but achieving parity won't happen without intentionality. Yesterday I had the privilege of attending the inclusive leadership conference hosted by Diversifi. Among numerous elements that stood out, my key takeaways were as follows: 1. The tapestry of difference, be it culture, race, or religion , when embraced and appreciated, can be the cornerstone of amazing workplace culture. 2. Leadership, among many other elements, requires a true sense of self-mastery. When one can identify their own shortcomings, be brave enough to say “I don’t know “, and have the courage to lead from behind, then only can you lead with greater odds for success. 3. “Equality does not equate to equity”. An important principle to remember in creating an environment for everyone to belong and feel included. Thanks to the Diversifi team for a well facilitated workshop. #Leadership #culture

The facilitators, Jasbir Singh and Lee Yen Chin, were absolutely fantastic. They guided us through insightful discussions about the power of diversity and inclusion. 🤝 🔑 Key Takeaways: Diverse Teams Perform Better: It’s a fact! When we bring together people with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, magic happens. 🌟🚀 Inclusion Matters: But here’s the catch—diversity alone isn’t enough. We need to actively create an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued, heard, and respected. 🤝💡 Becoming an Inclusive Leader: It starts with self-awareness. Reflect on your biases, actively seek diverse perspectives, and champion equity. 🌟 DE&I Journey at DNV: Our journey toward diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) is ongoing.
