Another nice podcast from Daniel Serfaty and Aptima. The key observation is that the #sciences of #human cognition and performance are not only essential for development of #generativeai and its use, they may be the most important driver of its development and use including #measurement of its near-term effect on interactions and long-term #impact on productivity or on others whether intended or not. In this prospective knowledge transfer, the #methodologies for analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of generative AI likely will only be as good as they have been for humans. We will need to use the right methodologies for the right application of generative AI. That's not a simple decision, and it requires the right kind of expertise from the human sciences. Both interventions and control groups have #consequences, for example, especially in a #naturalistic setting. Even more important is the question of whether developments in generative AI will actually help us understand explicit or implicit #interactions among humans more deeply and more quickly, even to include more #philosophical considerations such as #interpersonal #norms and #mores. See e.g., recent thoughts about this https://lnkd.in/ehw-XcFr and early thoughts on this https://lnkd.in/d24F_Jd Moving forward, it is transformatively important to recognize that our interactions with generative AI will generate #multiple new entities. If generative AI is like a "new species," then our interactions with it are more like procreation and child rearing. As David Passiak reminds us, generative AI is not one thing. It is a #community or #workforce that we can develop and utilize with all the diversity of talent and biases that it offers. Social and organizational psychology will be as useful as cognitive psychology in this context. As Serfaty points out, research on human use of generative AI will have direct implications for #policy. It seems both likely and #promising that this also will have implications for policy around human endeavors that may not utilize generative AI, especially novel endeavors accelerated by social media of which we seem to have lost ethical control and an appreciation of societal impact.

Just wrapped up an insightful week at the 11th International Week and 3rd ATHENA International Week hosted by the Hellenic Mediterranean University in Chania, Crete. The fusion of pedagogies and technologies for teaching and learning in higher education sparked vibrant discussions. 🎓 One takeaway question that resonated with me was: How can we, as educators, harness AI to benefit ourselves and our students? The potential of AI to personalize learning, enhance student engagement, and streamline administrative tasks is truly transformative. 🤖✨ I'm diving into a book on AI to explore its capabilities to learn, evolve, and surprise us. The journey of understanding how AI will transform our roles as educators and shape the future of education has just begun. Let's embrace this change together! 🚀 #AIinEducation #LifelongLearning #VilniusTech

As academicians, we all know the deep satisfaction of contributing to knowledge and nurturing young minds. It's a profession with a truly noble soul. But with growing competition, this soul runs the danger of being left behind. This competitive environment can sometimes lead to a disconnect from the core values that drew us to academia in the first place. Let's grow together, and surely, that will make our world just a little better. Gazing across the shifting landscape of academia, have penned down a few profound thoughts that take hold. #academia #excellencewithasoul P.S. The background image is AI generated.

🌟 Reflecting on an Inspiring 2 weeks in MIT 🌟 The two-week summer program at MIT, Boston, for my son has come to an end, and we also had the chance to visit Harvard. Walking through MIT’s corridors, engaging in conversations with students and educators about #AIforABetterWorld, was truly priceless. It felt like a nostalgic trip back to my university days and a powerful reminder of how MIT’s mission is more relevant than ever in our AI-infused world. And why Human curiosity and our values are the driving forces behind our collective progress. Perhaps we could adopt an AI version of this mission for our countries and regions: “Advance Responsible AI Tech to best serve our countries and the world.” #MIT #Harvard #AI #Education #Innovation #ResponsibleAI

Did you know that #SamsungSolve for Tomorrow has been championing #STEM education for 15 years? 📖 🔬 On International Day of Education, we are proud celebrate our commitment to learning and development, which are essential building blocks for all. This year’s theme reminds us that unlocking the potential of Artificial Intelligence (#AI) depends on keeping humanity at the heart of this rapidly evolving technology. Princeton High School (New Jersey) – one of our three Solve for Tomorrow national winners from last year, truly encapsulated this message in their project. To safeguard endangered Indigenous languages, students developed Che'w, an AI-powered robotic stuffed animal which speaks indigenous languages. #Education is an cornerstone of innovation and we look forward to supporting our communities for another 15 years and beyond. #InternationalDayofEducation #SamsungSolveforTomorrow #SFT_US_2025 #EnablingPeople

It was great to join a small portion of this webinar on Critical Thinking and GenAI. This has been extremely useful to help situate my research thesis and has continued to help me identify the impact that my thesis will contribute to our understanding of how to use GenAI for good in the classroom, and how to better suppprt teaching colleagues with key frameworks to develop methods which encourage ethical and practical use of AI to contribute to students wider academic identities and attributes. #DigiEduWebinars
