Did you know that #SamsungSolve for Tomorrow has been championing #STEM education for 15 years? 📖 🔬 On International Day of Education, we are proud celebrate our commitment to learning and development, which are essential building blocks for all. This year’s theme reminds us that unlocking the potential of Artificial Intelligence (#AI) depends on keeping humanity at the heart of this rapidly evolving technology. Princeton High School (New Jersey) – one of our three Solve for Tomorrow national winners from last year, truly encapsulated this message in their project. To safeguard endangered Indigenous languages, students developed Che'w, an AI-powered robotic stuffed animal which speaks indigenous languages. #Education is an cornerstone of innovation and we look forward to supporting our communities for another 15 years and beyond. #InternationalDayofEducation #SamsungSolveforTomorrow #SFT_US_2025 #EnablingPeople

Not long to go now till the eGrad School Global Conference at QUT (Queensland University of Technology)! This program is packed with insights related to #AI research targeting PhD candidates but benefitting all of us. Topics such as: automating the analysis of design protocols, AI #fluency in the humanities, #GenAI, managing #sensitivedata and AI in #universities, AI #literacy in doctoral education, AI and #research #careers, #ethical frameworks for GenAI adoption, GenAI for #knowledge similarity #transformation, how scientists can use AI #agents to create breakthroughs faster, GenAI in #community #consultations and more. Register qut.edu.au/egrad-con Full program: https://lnkd.in/gmcF4B29 When: 26 November 2024 (10-5pm Brisbane time) Title: Dual-Use AI: The Ultimate Game of Chess Abstract: Professor Katina Michael will explore dual-use AI using three case studies (#cybersecurity, #human #resource #management, and #game #design). Drawing from her interdisciplinary background in technology, business, law and society, Katina explores the double face of AI dependent on the strategic vantage point of the player, analogous to a game of chess. Whether AI is good or bad, really depends on who the #decisionmaker is, their #intentionality and the #context of the #game. The talk will delve into the socio-technical landscape of AI, and how environmental dimensions are critical in closing the policy-practice pacing problem. Prof. Michael will present several scenarios in which organizations have been held accountable whereby demonstrating the need for emphasis on corporate social responsibility (#CSR) and environmental, social, and governance (#ESG) priorities. This talk aims to raise awareness about the double face of AI, the importance of #human #leadership, and #failures in the loop and their #socialimplications. Another nice podcast from Daniel Serfaty and Aptima. The key observation is that the #sciences of #human cognition and performance are not only essential for development of #generativeai and its use, they may be the most important driver of its development and use including #measurement of its near-term effect on interactions and long-term #impact on productivity or on others whether intended or not. In this prospective knowledge transfer, the #methodologies for analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of generative AI likely will only be as good as they have been for humans. We will need to use the right methodologies for the right application of generative AI. That's not a simple decision, and it requires the right kind of expertise from the human sciences. Both interventions and control groups have #consequences, for example, especially in a #naturalistic setting. Even more important is the question of whether developments in generative AI will actually help us understand explicit or implicit #interactions among humans more deeply and more quickly, even to include more #philosophical considerations such as #interpersonal #norms and #mores. See e.g., recent thoughts about this https://lnkd.in/ehw-XcFr and early thoughts on this https://lnkd.in/d24F_Jd Moving forward, it is transformatively important to recognize that our interactions with generative AI will generate #multiple new entities. If generative AI is like a "new species," then our interactions with it are more like procreation and child rearing. As David Passiak reminds us, generative AI is not one thing. It is a #community or #workforce that we can develop and utilize with all the diversity of talent and biases that it offers. Social and organizational psychology will be as useful as cognitive psychology in this context. As Serfaty points out, research on human use of generative AI will have direct implications for #policy. It seems both likely and #promising that this also will have implications for policy around human endeavors that may not utilize generative AI, especially novel endeavors accelerated by social media of which we seem to have lost ethical control and an appreciation of societal impact.

Analyzing source bias and perspective is fundamental to working in social science — something that #trafalgarcastleschool has its students do on the regular. Building the skills to draw conclusions and interpretations from evidence —historical sources, case studies or interviews — is invaluable to thinking independently and understanding the world beyond our Castle walls. It makes sense that when it comes to using #GenAI, Trafalgar Castle School students are encouraged to employ the exact skills they use in the social sciences to ensure they view this technological tool with a clear lens. Read more about how Trafalgar students hone their interpretation, ethical reasoning, critical thinking and more with GenAI: https://lnkd.in/gm_E4ZjC #nothingaTrafalgarGirlcanthandle #futureready #schoolforgirls #boardingschool #independentschool #technology #AI #criticalthinking #readyforthefuture #tech CIS Ontario: The Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS) International Coalition of Girls' Schools

🚀 Exciting times at Marist College as we kick off our community’s journey with artificial intelligence! Today, we had the privilege of hosting Dr. C. Edward Watson, Vice President for Digital Innovation at the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) and founding director of AAC&U’s Institute on AI, Pedagogy, and the Curriculum. Dr. Watson shared insights from his latest book, Teaching with AI: A Practical Guide to a New Era of Human Learning (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2024), and helped us explore the transformative potential of AI in education. As co-chair of the Marist + AI Steering Committee alongside Diane Hart, I’m thrilled to see our community thoughtfully consider the role of AI at our institution. Together, we’re mapping out how AI will enhance teaching, learning, and the student experience, all while staying rooted in Marist’s values of ethical and human-centric technology use. This is just the beginning. Stay tuned for more updates on how Marist is integrating AI to lead in education and ethical innovation. #AIinEducation #MaristCollege #EthicalAI #Marist+AI #HigherEdInnovation
