We are pleased to share our new report with Higher Education Policy Institute and GatenbySanderson entitled ''Unblocking the Pipeline: Supporting the Retention, Progression and Promotion of Black Early-Career Academics''. This report is an outcome of a project between Society of Black Academics (SBA), Higher Education Policy Institute, and GatenbySanderson. It was led by Becca Franssen, PhD (Partner in the Education Team at GatenbySanderson), and supported by Josh Freeman (Policy Manager at Higher Education Policy Institute), Dr. Opeoluwa Aiyenitaju (Lecturer in Business Information Systems at The Manchester Metropolitan University), Bola O Babajide (Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at De Montfort University), Mercy Denedo (Associate Professor in Accounting at Durham University), Steven Kator Iorfa (Doctoral Researcher at the University of Portsmouth), and Ade Oyedijo (Associate Professor in Operations and Supply Chain Management at the University of Leicester). In the report's Foreword, Professor Udy Archibong MBE stated that ''In an era where diversity and inclusion are not just ideals but essentials, the academic community faces a significant challenge: the underrepresentation of Black academics, particularly in senior positions.... It is our collective responsibility to ensure that the pathways to academic success are open and accessible to all. By implementing the recommendations presented in this report, we can begin to dismantle the systemic barriers that impede the progress of Black academics and cultivate an academic culture that truly values and supports diversity '' The report urges renewed focus on advancing the careers of Black academics. It not only highlights the urgency of addressing these issues but also provides a clear roadmap for action. Our hope is that this report will inspire and guide meaningful change across institutions, paving the way for a more equitable and inclusive academic future.
