Who didn't love putting contests as a junior golfer? Playing against your friends for £1, for golf balls or event for a plate of chips, these were serious events. They were more than that though, they allowed us to bond over short contests whilst working on the most important parts of our games. They made us feel like we belonged as part of the junior golf scene at our clubs. In our 11th White Paper, we addressed the issue of belonging. Making new golfers feel like they belong as part of the golfing community is crucial to grow our sport. One idea is to build leagues at your club so that people we can foster this feeling of fun competition and build that feeling of belonging. Discover how to build your golf business by leaning-into making people feel like they belong: https://lnkd.in/eXRvRKPS 📸 : Lukas Opekar (Unsplash)

So interesting to hear Gary Neville's insights on the challenges beginners face in golf. It's disheartening to witness newcomers being chastised for not knowing every rule and piece of golf etiquette. No one should be made to feel unwelcome or intimidated, especially kids. This is such a key driver for us at Love Golf UK, breaking down barriers with free equipment hire, coaching sessions and community engagement. Rory McIlroy is spot on - we need more accessible entry points like driving ranges and public golf courses to bridge the gap between interest and actual play. Let's keep asking, what more can we do to make golf inclusive and welcoming for everyone? ⛳ #LoveGolfUK #InclusiveGolf

Following the success of SF Hoops, Brett Wischow & I are branching out to create a new league in a new sport. Introducing SF Links, where great folks from all walks of tech come together to play 9 holes of golf and enjoy the most incredible-yet-frustrating sport in the world. Golf can sometimes be an intimidating sport. It's hard to get good at, it can be time consuming, finding the right group isn't easy, and booking tee times can be difficult. We're solving all of that: 🆕 Our commissioners are less-than-stellar golfers and don't care if you're a pro or a noob. ⛳ We will play 9 holes (~2 hours) once every other week, totaling 7 rounds over 14 weeks with a masters-style tournament at the end 4️⃣ We will match you with a different foursome every round, allowing you to get to make new friends and meet people in tech who just want to play a fun round of golf without pretense ⏲ We're booking the tee times for everyone. All you need to do is show up at your designated time We're capping SF Links at 80 people to allow for 20 foursomes a week. Dues are $120. If you'd like to join, feel free to message me or Brett for the league details. If you have any friends you'd like to bring into the league, let us know or have them reach out to us directly. Signups end on May 24th or whenever we get to 80 members - whichever comes first. I'll link the SF Links website in the comments. Hope to see you on the links!

👀Do you listen directly to the young participants at your golf tour? Durham Junior Golf Tour did just that. Through the Players 1st Tour Organizer Survey, they unlocked the opportunity to remain relevant to the youth, improving and expanding DJGT in the 2023 season. ⛳ "The Tour Organizer Survey was exceptional. It helped validate the many changes that we implemented in recent years and provided us with feedback that identified areas of concern for our players and their families that we need to address moving forward."- Jeffrey Iceton , Tour Chairman, Durham Junior Golf Tour. If you manage a golf course or host tournaments, using the Players 1st Survey can help you identify your strengths and opportunities for improvement. 🏌️Increase your sponsorship revenue and bring back participants in the new season. 🔗 – in comments. #golf #experience #golfbusiness #customerexperiencemanagement

Where are my golfers? I’m excited for this event…you know I specialise in leadership training but did you know there are SO many similarities between golf and being a leader? Playing golf has taught me so much about leadership! 🏌️♂️ Just like in golf, being a great leader means staying focused, being patient, and thinking strategically. Here are a few lessons golf has reinforced: 1. **Preparation is Key**: Just as I practice my swing, leaders must prepare for meetings and projects. 2. **Adaptability**: Weather changes on the course, and business conditions change too. Adapt and keep moving forward. 3. **Patience and Resilience**: Not every shot lands where you want it. Learn from mistakes and stay resilient. Both golf and leadership are continuous journeys of improvement. Let's keep refining our skills and striving for excellence! See you in June at the Whitby Chamber of Commerce golf event at Royal Ashburn Golf Club #Leadership #Golf #ContinuousLearning #Resilience #leadershiptraining #teetime #supportlocal #chamberofcommerce #businessowner #whitby

The perfect way to spoil a good walk? 🏌️ I thoroughly enjoy playing golf - it was one of the reasons I chose to go to uni in St Andrews. If you live in the town, you can buy an annual membership pass - including the world-famous Old Course - for (at the time) £125 a year. Kingsbarns, a bit south of St Andrews, is my favourite course: the terrain, the mixture of awesome holes, and the scenery. I did a summer as a caddy there, too, including some double bag double spin days (carrying 2x bags per round x2). That led to some bad sunburn on occasion... I've mentioned before I'd love to play Augusta. One day I will challenge myself to network my way to a round there! I'm far from the best golfer, but I can get it around. I was down to a handicap of 11 at uni - which should have been better but I didn't practice enough. Nowadays I'd say 18, though I am more handy in Stableford than Medal as I don't play regularly. Biggest win? RAC Club pro-am in 2017. I played well, our pro had a couple of eagles and a few birdies, one of the team played a blinder, and the fourth came in just when needed 👌. One big skill in golf is to "play it as it lies". A great lesson for business, too. You can't control the past - only the future. Who else enjoys golf? What's your favourite course and why?
