🌟 Finding Passion and Purpose 🌟
Zack's Workways journey is a story of finding purpose through a newfound passion.
When Zack first met Workways Employment Coach, Karen, in July 2022, he was struggling with employment and career direction. Past experience with employment providers had proved challenging for him, but despite his initial reservations, Zack persevered and accepted Karen’s guidance.
He completed an EST course and tried various jobs, only to discover they weren't the right fit. Seeking a fresh perspective, he participated in "back2work" sessions, focusing on motivation, lack of confidence and career exploration.
🌟 These sessions proved transformative! 🌟
Zack discovered a newfound passion for making jewellery 💍. His demeanour shifted dramatically; his face lit up when discussing his designs, which he proudly shared during appointments.
Determined to pursue this passion, Zack enrolled in the SEA program to gain business-building skills. He's currently finalizing his financial forecasting, demonstrating his commitment and dedication.
This story exemplifies the power of finding purpose. Witnessing Zack's transformation, from disengaged to empowered, filled Karen and the Workways team with immense pride. We eagerly await the next update on his flourishing jewellery business.

As I made my way through the Kennemerduinen to Parnassia Beach yesterday, the route was anything but ordinary. Faced with flooded paths that would deter many, I chose to continue, driven by a mix of stubbornness and excitement.
I soon found myself stepping off my bike and into the water. Shoes, trousers and bike in hand, I waded through the knee-deep floods. Each crossing presented a clear choice: go back, retreat, or push forward.
Initially, I felt annoyed as my idea of a leisurely cycle trip took a detour into something more demanding. Yet, with each step into the cool, pooled waters, my apprehension gave way to exhilaration. By the time I navigated the third and final puddle, I was not just on the other side of the flooded path but had also crossed into a state of joy and achievement. What began as a challenge quickly transformed into an emotional uplift, proving that real fulfillment often lies just beyond our comfort zones.
This experience underscored a vital entrepreneurial lesson: True paths aren't always laid out before us; sometimes, we forge them through our willingness to confront the unexpected and uncomfortable. And it's in these moments of decision and inner daring that we find that we are more capable and extraordinary than we thought
Each water crossing in our entrepreneurial journey or life, offers a choice: dive back into old patterns, face the same storms over and over again and contract, or dive into untapped potential, expand and evolve. Each step forward, in alignement with your real talent, will make you feel lighter and allows you to discover hidden talents you’ve always had. Are you ready to embrace each crossing not just as a challenge, but as a pathway to true inner freedom, passion, and expansion?
When have you faced a moment that tested your willingness to move beyond comfort and control? How did overcoming this challenge reveal hidden talents you didn’t know you had?

Hello everyone,
As I reflect on the past year, I’m filled with gratitude and excitement for the journey I’ve embarked on since moving to Los Angeles. It’s been almost a year, and I’d love to share a recap of this extraordinary period.
Incredible Experiences and Personal Growth
Moving to Los Angeles has been a transformative experience. I’ve had the opportunity to immerse myself in a vibrant environment, fostering both personal and professional growth. The dynamic nature of this city has challenged me to push my boundaries and strive for excellence.
Enhancing My Quality of Life
One of the most significant changes has been the improvement in my quality of life. By placing myself in an environment like Los Angeles, I was able to increase my income and enjoy a higher standard of living. The energy of this city is contagious, driving me forward and eliminating any thoughts of stepping back.
Learning and Achievements
In Los Angeles, I achieved more than I ever imagined. Professionally, I’ve earned better than in France, and I’ve realized ambitions that once seemed out of reach. Along the way, I’ve learned invaluable lessons that have shaped my journey.
A Supportive and Inspiring Community
What truly makes Los Angeles special is the people. I am fortunate to be surrounded by a supportive group of friends and many inspiring individuals. The collective pursuit of dreams and the shared goal of achieving financial and moral freedom is palpable here. Being in such an environment has motivated me to become a better person.
Encouragement to Seek Growth-Enabling Environments
In conclusion, I firmly believe that surrounding yourself with ambitious and positive people is key to personal development. Los Angeles has done that for me, and I encourage everyone to seek out environments that naturally push you to aim higher and live better.
Thank you for reading, and I hope my experience can inspire some of you to take the leap and pursue your own journey of growth and fulfillment.

Friday - Art Day 🎨
Many years ago, I had my first business. It was a little bakery with four staff members in Clapham Junction. I ran it for 2.5 years. While I eventually had to close it because the bakery never went above the breakeven point, it was the best learning opportunity—the university of life. Understanding what it means to establish a business from scratch and run it day in and day out with the whole responsibility resting on your shoulders is priceless. My two other university degree studies were important too, but I have to say they loose out to my small business in terms of personal growth.
My mother turned 70 very recently. Like many big milestones, her birthday prompted me to reflect on my mother and the things she taught me. I don't know if I would have ever dared to do many things in my life without having my mother as a role model.
I also thought about role models in the corporate world. Do we truly acknowledge how powerful it is to act as a role model? Do we realize that at some point in our careers, we have an opportunity to become a role model for someone else? Do we remember that throughout all history, humanity has learned and evolved by studying those who came before us?
My mother's business was catering, I am a hybrid between a corporate contributor and an art storyteller, and who knows what my own children will choose to do. I just hope they remember to lift their heads and look around to see if there is someone from whom they can learn and who can show them the many opportunities to find their own way to contribute to the world.

The sky is the limit!
Today at work, during a moment of reflection after one meeting and before the next, I sat under an indoor tree soaking up the Sun that had finally graced southern Ireland.
There are no limits to what one can achieve! 🌟
As I reflect on my journey, I'm reminded of the incredible potential within each of us. 💡 In a world full of opportunities and possibilities, embracing the mindset that anything is achievable is essential.
Don't forget that the only limitations on your career aspirations, entrepreneurial pursuits, or self-improvement are those you establish for yourself. 💫 Dare to dream big and set lofty goals without fear!

In 2020, I packed my bags and left my cozy New Hampshire town for the buzzing city life in Charlotte, NC. And let me tell you, it's been one heck of a ride!
🚀 Charlotte's Vibe = Business Drive:
Moving here was like jumping onto a fast-moving train. Charlotte's growing like crazy, and it's not just the skyline that's reaching new heights – my business is too! There's something in the air here that gets you going. It's been a game changer for how I approach my work and connect with clients.
💡 Learning and Growing:
This city is a melting pot of ideas and cultures, and diving into this diversity has been a real eye-opener. I've had to up my game, think on my feet, and embrace new ways of doing things. Spoiler alert: it's working! My business is growing, and so is my network.
🌟 More Than Business:
But hey, it's not all about work. Moving here has taught me loads about myself. From learning to be resilient in a new city to understanding the power of a diverse community, it's been a journey of self-discovery just as much as business growth.
So, here’s a shoutout to change and new beginnings! I’m curious, what’s your story? Ever made a big move or a change that shook things up for you and your business?
Drop your stories in the comments – let's inspire each other!

I read a fantastic book recently called “The Boys in the Boat.” It was a period piece that took place during the Great Depression. It was about an eclectic group of boys from the upper Northwest United States who remarkably found a way to land spots on the eight-man rowing team at the University of Washington. These eight boys went on to defy the odds, winning Olympic Gold in the 1936 Olympics in Nazi Germany.
As a part of the story, there was this British boat builder who had relocated to Washington State and ultimately built their boat. His name was George Pocock. George and his brother were descendants of legendary crew boat-builders George and Dick Pocock. To say they were passionate about their trade would be an understatement. The meticulous detail it took to build these 62-foot shells was a combination of rare skills and what author Daniel James Brown referred to as, Inflammable Enthusiasm.
So, what is Inflammable Enthusiasm? It’s a purposeful inner burning that is hyper focused and emboldened toward a higher set of goals. While a great rarity, the greatest achievements of humankind would never have happened without inflammable enthusiasm. And it may not be the originator of the idea that has this fire within, but instead someone who happened to cross paths with the originator.
This very thing happened to me when I decided to join a startup in the software services space. As the story goes, the owner had his company for years and barely moved the needle financially, and here I was working for companies where I felt overworked, underpaid, and underappreciated. Then one day he and I had an unanticipated conversation with this owner and he offered me an opportunity to help pull his company out of its perpetual spin cycle of mediocrity. Sure, it was a risk, but together he and I conjoined, sparking something greater than either of us had experienced up to that point, Inflammable Enthusiasm. The rest is history.

My career in 4 phases. What I wished I knew:
Phase 1: The Excitement
I was thrilled to start my training contract in 2001 - I wanted success, to make an impact and gain recognition. And I got it. I started as a trainee and rose to become a partner at 28 years old at the same firm. I learnt so much along the way.
Phase 2: The Middle
I was laterally hired to a new firm as a partner. I was relatively young and had just had children. I was energetic and keen to build a practice. I did so and did some of my best work professionally including the rescue and restructure of Darlington FC which I won a national award as Turnaround Practitioner of the Year for in 2016. However, I still plateaued. I felt unfulfilled and stagnated. I wasn't growing.
Phase 3: The Re-Aligning
So, I re-aligned my goals. I took a role establishing a new office for a law firm where I live. I really enjoyed my time there and it fulfilled some of my aspirations. It was a stepping stone and brought me closer to home and the children - but I knew it was not going to give me what I wanted in the long term.
Phase 4: The Gratitude
And with that, I joined Manolete in 2019 and have had my fair share of successes, made an impact and gained recognition. I have done a separate post on this phase but some of the key elements are (1) success in delivering a wide range of positive outcomes across my portfolio of cases (2) impact on the business came from delivering a significant number of case enquiries and signed cases to build my portfolio and (3) recognition from this build phase which led to my appointment as Head of Business Development and the creation of a specific BD team at Manolete.
So, learning from my experiences. I have endeavoured to seek feedback and reflect on it, align it to my goals, and act on it consistently.
The missing link from the middle phase was feedback. I didn't ask for it enough, analyse it in-depth, or act on it. I think I was unprepared to listen to it even when it came. I was unable to appreciate that feedback is not a personal criticism, but an opportunity to grow. I also now realise that I respond much better to unstructured feedback - the kind that comes freely and willingly where there is a culture of openness and transparency.
I now realise you have to be somewhere where you can continue to grow - all of the time otherwise you may stagnate.

How Building a Career in the US as an Immigrant is Like Mastering Hogwarts Magic 🏰✨
Let's talk real, unfiltered truth: cracking the code of a US career as an immigrant is like trying to ace every spell at Hogwarts.
🗺️ Navigating the Foreign Terrain:
Embarking on a career in the US as an immigrant? Buckle up.
It's a topsy-turvy journey that requires a fusion of hard work, a dose of serendipity, and sometimes a sprinkle of sheer magic.
The "American Dream" is the golden snitch we're all chasing.
🌐 Adapting is the Name of the Game:
Just as the Hogwarts grounds morph with every twist and turn, your career path in the US is a shifting landscape.
And guess what?
Embracing adaptability is your ticket to surviving the Triwizard Tournament of American business norms.
📢 Casting the Communication Charm:
Ah, communication—the equivalent of mastering Lumos Maxima.
The US biz world has its own lexicon, direct and succinct. It's like learning to whisper a Patronus charm.
Straightforward, effective, and unlike the flourish style of many other cultures.
🌮 Channeling the Chancla Energy:
Funny thing about us immigrants: we know the power of the "chancla."
I was forced to make the transition because if I failed... my mother was waiting for me back home, in Venezuela, with a "chancla" in her hand
Failure isn't an option when the specter of a "chancla" from home looms.
And oh, how motivating it is.
It's that 'no retreat, no surrender' drive that fuels our hustle.
💡 Sharing War Stories and Battle Tools:
Recently, I had the honor of spilling my toolkit to international students at the University of Houston, C.T. Bauer College of Business
We dissected personal branding, summoned stories, and even sorted them into Hogwarts houses (watch the video to unveil the magic).
I'm grateful that Erin Sweeney and Stacey Piefer invited me to speak at the Rockwell Career Center to share what I've learned at the International Student Orientation.
Best of all, we heard some amazing stories about how Dr. Roger Barascout has been able to build a successful career as an immigrant (and he also shared the secret sauce of how he and Dean Paul A. Pavlou are taking Bauer to new heights each year).
💪 Redefining David vs. Goliath:
What I shared was just a sneak peek into the treasure trove of strategies required to face the Goliath-like challenges.
Immigrant warriors, I want to hear your tales.
When you first parachuted into the US, what tools do you wish were in your toolkit?
In this wizarding duel, immigrant grit and resilience rule.
The path might be challenging, but the satisfaction of your journey unfolding, chapter by chapter, is your ultimate Patronus. 🌟
