Despite being treatable, these conditions are often overlooked, leading to disparities in care. In our latest blog post, we'll discuss the prevalence of mental health challenges in seniors, the impact of stigma, and how caregivers are crucial in providing support and breaking down barriers. As International Men’s Health Week seeks to raise awareness of men’s health issues, I think of this troubling statistic – men are half as likely as women to seek treatment for mental health issues but are three- to four times as likely to die by suicide. The reason is simple: many men, and much of our culture, view emotional health issues and seeking help as a sign of weakness in men. These kinds of misperceptions and stigmas harm everyone. At BCCS, we continually advocate for mental health. During International Men’s Health Week, please help us remove the stigmas by discussing men’s mental health with the people around you. https://ow.ly/fJEx50RYQ6y #MensHealth #MensHealthWeek #CancerScreening #BCCSCares

According to the FDA, racial and ethnic minorities face several obstacles in addressing their mental health, such as less access to culturally competent care and treatment and overcoming social stigmas about mental illness. That’s why, during National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, it is important to bring awareness to some of these challenges and spread awareness about mental illness in our communities. Have you ever felt invisible in a system meant to see you? "I'm here, but I'm not" – Today's theme explores the disparities in mental health care. For many, seeking help can feel like being in a vibrant room yet remaining unseen, a grayscale figure in a colorful world. These disparities in care can leave individuals feeling detached and overlooked, even when surrounded by a healthcare system. It's a stark reminder of how mental health support isn't equally accessible or effective for all. How can we make mental health care more inclusive and accessible to all communities? #MentalHealthEquity #HealthcareDisparity #DepressionAwareness #Inclusion #YouAreNotAlone #Midjourney
