🌟 Let's Shine a Light on Youth Homelessness! 🌟 As someone who has experience working in the youth sector, I've witnessed firsthand the significant barriers young people face when trying to secure accommodation. Many of them lack the resources to navigate services independently and rely heavily on support from non-profit organizations (NFPs/NGOs). Consider this: In 2022–23, more than 38,000 young people aged 15–24 presented alone to a homelessness service. This staggering statistic highlights the urgent need for action. This Youth Homelessness Matters Day (YHMD) on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, let's unite to raise awareness and drive meaningful change. #YHMD24 is a national day that sparks conversations and action around child and youth homelessness. It's a day to recognize the resilience of young people and push for sustainable solutions to support them. Join us in making a difference: 📢 Raise Awareness: Spread the word about YHMD and the realities of youth homelessness. 💡 Get Involved: Organize or participate in YHMD activities in your community. Register your event with Yfoundations and access our campaign kit for ideas and resources. ✍️ Sign the Petition: Advocate for a standalone National Child and Youth Homelessness and Housing Plan by signing Yfoundations petition. 💰 Make a Donation: Support NFP/NGO's efforts to end youth homelessness by donating. Please see below for some events that may be held in your local LGA. #YouthHomelessness #homelessness

Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. As this day approaches, we encourage everyone to take steps to recognize and honour the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Wearing orange is one way to show your support in commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools. In addition to donning orange, other ways you can participate in the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation: • read about the legacy of residential schools • read the summary of the Final Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada • learn about Indigenous cultures These steps are a vital component of the reconciliation process. https://bit.ly/2XY4y1K #NDTR #EveryChildMatters

I am excited to announce that the Perth-wide service project working with Uniting WA providing essentials to those experiencing homelessness has been published in national news website Horizons, on YouTube, and on Baha'i Blog! ⭐ https://lnkd.in/gQ-FJ5k6 ⭐ https://lnkd.in/gArqBPQR ⭐ https://lnkd.in/gX7zgM7E Sonia Raisi and I teamed up to initially organize a collaboration service project between the ECU and UWA Baha'i Societies, but as we learned more about Uniting WA's need for large-scale donations, we decided to take on the challenge of transforming it into a Perth-wide event. We had never organized an initiative of this scale before, so we wanted to share some of our learning! 1. Take time to learn from the professionals. It is imperative with any project to maintain honesty in what can be accomplished with your capabilities alone, and when to seek wisdom from other professionals. Recognizing that we had little education on what it is like to be experiencing homelessness in Perth, we decided to reach out to Rhys Powell from Uniting WA, since Uniting WA is the leading nonprofit in Western Australia for tackling this challenge. Our Zoom meeting with him allowed us to refine our vision and task breakdown to maximize the effect we could have on our local community. 2. Diversify advertising, but invest the most time on one-on-one invitations because they are harder to miss and more enticing to accept. We let others know about the event through the ECU and UWA Baha'i Society Instagrams, youth group chats, junior youth group leaders, emails sent by local institutions, and one-on-one messages between friends and acquaintances. By far, the most effective form of communication that influenced others to participate was the final one. 3. Be clear in communicating the level of inclusivity of the event. We strongly encouraged all the junior youth groups in Perth to participate in the project by collecting from their local neighbourhoods. However, many of the older generations misunderstood this encouragement to mean that the event was only for youth and junior youth. Thus, they thought that they could not participate, even though this was an all-inclusive event. Some more details: ✨ We had 150-200 donors total ✨ By the end of the event, we had received so many donations that the stage was overflowing! ✨ About 70 people attended the event ✨ The program consisted of a presentation from Rhys, refreshments, and a social portion If you want to get involved in our next service project, feel free to send me a message! The UWA and ECU Baha'i Societies are committed to organizing events that are focused on including as many individuals as possible with the goal of eliminating apathy towards social issues and nurturing a sense of united protagonism throughout Perth.

For the the fourth National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we recommend a few ways that non-Indigenous people can acknowledge the grave injustices committed against First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities, understand the complex systemic challenges they continue to face, and work towards building a brighter shared future. #truthandreconciliation #nationaldayfortruthandreconciliation #everychildmatters

Hosting "Standing Up for Our Community," Jewish Family & Community Services East Bay's briefing one month after the 2024 election with our immigration legal leaders Reena Arya and Sarah Gakenia Cleveland and Network of Jewish Human Service Agencies director of public policy and advocacy, Jonathan Schrag has been a way for us to turn knowledge into power for community action. Takeaways: - Proposed federal policy changes will have real consequences for our economy, our neighbors, our own families. - Low-income, older adult, and immigrant members of our community are likely to experience negative effects of proposed changes most acutely. - Policy changes may present new opportunities to support community members and new ways for our state, regional and city governments, businesses, and nonprofit ecosystems to step up. - There are opportunities to take action with JFCS East Bay. Stay informed, volunteer, raise your advocacy voice, and donate. 🌟 Celebrating purpose-led people of 2024 🌟 The Institute of Community Directors Australia has highlighted inspiring leaders making a real impact across the charity, not-for-profit, and community sectors. We’re proud to see DCA Chair Sunita Gloster AM featured among this year’s changemakers. As Sunita says: “Unchallenged, harmful stereotypes are a root cause of discrimination and inequality. Cultural shifts in attitudes are the key to changing behaviour and the systems that perpetuate society’s inequalities.” At DCA, we’re committed to driving change by fostering inclusive workplaces and challenging the systems that hold inequality in place. 👉Read the article here: https://ow.ly/QsMK50UuB91 #DiversityandInclusion #DiversityEquityInclusion #BusinessAustralia #DiversityCouncilAustralia #HumanResources #InclusiveEmployers #InclusiveLeadership #Leadership #InclusionMatters #DiversityMatters

Please help us with cascading this survey 👇👇🙏
Independent survey to explore attitudes towards the Church of England in the Diocese of Bristol Meaningful Measures Ltd is delighted to have been commissioned by the Diocese of Bristol to conduct a comprehensive survey aimed at understanding people's views of the Church of England churches and the use of church spaces within the local community. The survey is being conducted in Bristol, South Gloucestershire, North Wiltshire, and Swindon which is the area covered by the Diocese of Bristol. We want to understand what young people and adults think of the work of the churches in their local area and how well they support the local community – from the provision of community groups and community cafes to local social action and the provision of worship services. We hope to reach a wide audience, especially communities that may not be involved with the Church in any way, to ensure that diverse perspectives on this important topic are heard. What an eye-opening and insightful session💡 I should have shared this earlier. Some significant takeaways: - As CSO members or leaders, we hardly think of our contribution to the country’s economy. We are so caught up in our philanthropic work and uplifting our communities, that we rarely consider how much we contribute through job creation and utilization of locally owned products and services. - The hostility experienced between Governments and CSOs in some countries is sometimes driven by the narrative that CSOs are potential launchpads for political opposition groups. - There is a continued need to build the capacity of CSOs in generating meaningful data. Sharing impact stories is key! - African giving is broader and much more interesting than I thought ❤️ Follow EPIC-Africa for some interesting insights on the African CSO landscape.

As we continue to resource ourselves and our communities during the polycrisis and increasing social-eco-political instability, we want to remind people of the power of mutual aid. So what is mutual aid and how is it different than charity? Here is a wonderful definition from the Big Door Brigade... "Mutual aid is when people get together to meet each other’s basic survival needs with a shared understanding that the systems we live under are not going to meet our needs and we can do it together RIGHT NOW! Mutual aid projects are a form of political participation in which people take responsibility for caring for one another and changing political conditions, not just through symbolic acts or putting pressure on their representatives in government, but by actually building new social relations that are more survivable." Check out this video for a history of mutual aid in the United States and visit the comment section for a link to the Big Door Brigade website which has TONS of excellent resources for starting, joining, or managing mutual aid projects. #PeopleNotProfits #CommunityCare #SolidarityNotCharity https://lnkd.in/gM3QVNXu
