Also a good reminder that July is Disability Pride Month, which commemorates the July 1990 passage of the ADA and recognizes the achievements of the disability community, as well as their history, lived experiences, and struggles. 1 in 4 Americans live with some kind of disability. As a mom I am striving to raise a child that will embrace and not fear differences he encounters in others - including peers with disabilities. Bank of America earned a perfect 100/100 score on this year’s Disability Equality Index – for the 8th year in a row! The Index is a joint initiative from Disability:IN and American Association of People with Disabilities that measures adherence to leading disability inclusion practices.   It's an important reminder that it takes action to achieve more inclusive workplaces and communities. This… is true. There’s also been very little posts on social media across the board in this area. Is it due to the hesitation and anxiousness of what’s happening within our government and the presidential election that’s making companies not push onwards with their commitment for our disability communities? Is it the inflation that is impacting companies where their focus has shifted away from this to that? If so, something’s not right… there should be a balance as one would think. I cannot help but wonder what assessment tools Disability:IN is using to rate all the companies they have rated… Who’s doing these assessments? How are they authentically done with integrity? How are these companies getting high scores when this is the case… this post speaks volumes. Nonetheless, that should not slow us down, but drives us forward, and continue to speak out, speak up, push for changes that need to be made as there still so much to be done for our communities. What can we do to drive our companies to follow through with what they preach? Im reminded on #DisabilityPrideMonth that society is at completely different stages with regards to acceptance of disability in business. Businesses may well have inclusive policies, but if they don't have the enablers and controls in place to ensure that disabled people are being given the best chance of success, they may as well not bother. An opinion reflected in multiple court rulings recently. Recent rulings suggest that the courts are getting mildly frustrated that so many significant employers still do not have the right support in place to help disabled people and those who provide support. Recently documented actions of individuals suggests that knowledge and understanding of the requirements and potential also the potential consequences of not adhering to the Equality Act 2010 are not fully understood or simply being ignored. The courts are now at bursting point and are relying more and more on ACAS to attempt to keep cases out of the courtroom. A lack of understanding of the requirements exposes disabled people to conduct that can exacerbate a condition with a protected characteristic, where protection of career and brand can at times become more important than adhering to the law. On this year's #Disabilitypridemonth I am hopeful that businesses and individuals will take things seriously to make work a realistic option for those who desperately want to contribute to society and maintain a strong #mentalhealth I hope you will all take some time out to learn what Disability Pride Month means and appreciate that it could well be you one day. https://lnkd.in/egjwqMmP #Disabled #EqualityAct #Pride #Red #Equality
