𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀𝗦𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶 𝗔𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗮 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘀 $𝟰 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘂𝘀𝗲 🔸️The Acting President of the General Authority for Irrigation unveiled a plan to establish 96 projects, costing an estimated $4 billion (15 billion riyals), to enhance #infrastructure for water reuse in #agricultural, #urban, and industrial sectors. These projects aim to reuse over 70% of reclaimed water by 2030, totaling more than 2 billion cubic meters. 🔸️The Acting President highlighted that #SaudiArabia has been a pioneer in #WaterReuse for over 45 years, with reused water volumes rising from 127 million cubic meters in 2016 to 508 million cubic meters in 2023, representing 26% of the Kingdom's reclaimed water production. He also mentioned plans to establish a national irrigation center to improve water use efficiency in agriculture, targeting 72% efficiency by 2030. 🔆 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬: These projects offer significant #investment opportunities in water #technology and #infrastructure. August 1st, 2023, the #water year 2023/2024 starts. The Ministry of Water Resources & Irrigation worked during the previous water year 2022/2023 to meet the water needs of all sectors, achieve maximum benefit from every drop of water, and support #Egypt’s plan to achieve comprehensive and #sustainable development in various fields. #MWRI -Purifying 33,000 km of #canals and 22,000 km of #drains during the previous year, and coordinating with #agricultural sectors to purify private waterways. -Disinfection of 16,800 km of infected #canals before the period of maximum needs - Rehabilitation of (582) kilometers of canals in the centers of “#Hayah Karima” initiative, and work to #rehabilitate another (1,390) kilometers -Provision of (26) plots of land from the benefits of #irrigation with an area of 32,000 square meters to establish (30) service projects on it to serve the citizens of the centers of the “Hayah Karima” initiative. - Rehabilitation of (1580) Km of canals in various governorates, and work to rehabilitate another (3217) Km -Implementation of the covered #drainage within the control of 89,000 feddans, and the target is 60,000 feddans during the next year - A strategy for the transformation of #modern irrigation in sandy lands, sugar cane plantations and orchards, and a pilot pilot area on the Blucher canal in Aswan Work continues on the implementation of the project for the conveying of agricultural wastewater in the western delta for the water treatment plant in Al-Hamam -An essential project to develop the irrigation and #drainage system in #Siwa Oasis in cooperation with the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces, the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University and the people of Siwa Oasis. -Starting the implementation of the project to establish the new #Dairout Barrage to improve irrigation in the area of 1.60 million feddans in five governorates. - To strengthen the barrages of Zifta and Kafr Rabie, the bridges of Jamara and Amra bridges, the borders of Fom Al-Ismailia and Syracuse, and to secure the barrages of Damietta and Assiut. - Working on modernizing the operating systems of the lock and spillway of the Damietta Dam, the spillway of Esna, and the new Nagaa Hammadi barrages, maintaining the Edvina Barrages, strengthening the mouths of the canals taken from the Ibrahimia Canal, and studying the construction of the new Mouwes Bahr Barrage. -Preparing a database of all existing facilities on waterways, with a total of 50,000 water facilities -Work continues to implement protection facilities from the dangers of floods to protect citizens and facilities, and to harvest rainwater -Issuing the executive regulations of the new Water Resources and Irrigation Law to interpret the articles of the law -Distinguished efforts at the international level to raise the degree of interest in water issues and their relationship to climate change #AWARe #MWRI

The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has given the green light to a plan to set up a telemetry system for monitoring water discharge at 27 important sites in the Indus Basin Irrigation System. The project will cost Rs23.8 billion. The cost of each unit of the telemetry system has gone up by 157 percent over the last five years, from Rs334 million to Rs882 million. Under the chairmanship of Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Dr. Muhammad Jehanzeb Khan, the CDWP discussed various projects related to energy, transport, communication, and water resources. They suggested a revised plan to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for consideration. The project will be funded through the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP), with Rs500 million sponsored by the Indus @River System Authority (IRSA). The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA ) will oversee the project, which aims to automate the monitoring of water flow at key sites in the Indus Basin Irrigation System. Currently, water management in the Indus Basin relies on manual procedures, leading to inefficiencies and potential disputes. The new telemetry system will provide real-time data on water flow and gate positions, replacing manual operations. This will improve water management, enhance transparency, and reduce inter-provincial conflicts. The project's objectives include ensuring accurate information on water availability, installing modern equipment, establishing a data center, and fostering transparency and equitable water distribution. We are excited to share our latest RESADE project report titled "Assessment of Existing Irrigation and Drainage Infrastructure". You can view the report at https://lnkd.in/dVbea8UG This report is a part of the project “Improving Agricultural Resilience to Salinity Through the Development and Promotion of Pro-Poor Technologies (RESADE),” jointly funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA).  The RESADE project aims to provide effective solutions to the growing problems of soil salinization in seven sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries: Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Liberia, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, and Togo. This project assesses and identifies water management and irrigation infrastructure deficiencies to improve SSA countries' agricultural resilience. Improving irrigation and drainage infrastructure should be a top priority for sustainable production and livelihoods in the agricultural sector.
