A survey of 73,000 people in 77 countries revealed that 80% of people globally want more climate education in schools. That number was higher in developing countries (93%) compared to Canada and U.S. (66%) and Western Europe (73%). #climateeducation

The direct and indirect impacts of #climatechange on education are wide ranging and complex, causing perceived learning loss and disruption to schooling. Intersectionality also plays a substantial role in risk, with marginalised groups being disproportionately negatively impacted. In our recent report and documentary, in which we explored the relationship between education and climate change in six counties in #Kenya, school principal Elizabeth Ngare shared how fluctuating temperatures affect the learners at her school, Likoni School for the Visually Impaired. Climate hazards like floods, droughts, and fires are one of the major causes to children being out of school. For #internationaleducationday, my colleagues from Save the Children, Susan Nicolai and Kelley Toole, identify three critical actions to build climate resilience in education so children can continue to learn and prosper. 1) Improved understanding of the impacts of climate change on education.  2) Greater focus on education as part of climate action.  3) Significantly increased climate and education investment.

❗Floods killed more than 800 people in Nigeria, Niger, and other nearby countries between June and October 2022.
