While interest in sustainable apparel manufacturing grows, GENEDGE would like to highlight Virginia business Circ® this week! Circ® is a fashion technology company on a mission to protect the planet from the environmental cost of clothing. Their recycled polyester and recycled lyocell fibers can be used by popular fashion brands to create clothing with minimal environmental impact. At last week's Breakthrough Energy Summit, Prince William mentioned Circ's impactful work. He stated, "Circ has partnered with some of the world's biggest fashion brands to start to tackle the massive challenge of textile waste." GENEDGE is excited to see the recognition of sustainable apparel manufacturing here in Virginia, and we hope to build a greener future for all of us. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, with an estimated between 80bn and 150bn items of clothing made annually. This figure includes the staggering statistic that up to 40% of clothes produced yearly, amounting to 60 billion garments, are not sold. This obscene waste is enough to clothe six generations, yet only 1% of clothing is currently recycled. Experts agree that tackling this issue will require radical changes in production methods, potentially backed by legislation. However, the solution for consumers is simple: buy less and smarter. By making conscious choices about the clothing we purchase, we can reduce the demand for overproduction and contribute to a more sustainable fashion industry. #EUSusTex #Sustainability#GreenDeal https://lnkd.in/dZ5vWV5D

Zero waste models can and should be applied to clothing! How can we ensure that textile business models are circular, rather than another greenwashing marketing ploy? It's no secret to anyone that the fashion industry - and especially its so-called fast fashion segment - is based on extreme overproduction and overconsumption, often coupled with exploitative working conditions and little regard towards our environment. But there are ways to make fashion sustainable and fair for alll; and there are also good examples of sustainable clothing business models out there. We need to empower pioneers in the field worldwide, and to have a regulatory framework that does not allow the continuation of harmful practices. On this #ZeroWasteMonth2024, get inspired by what circular clothing can look like with the resources on the ZWE website: https://lnkd.in/eDB_qx8H #IZWM2024 #GoForZeroWaste #ZeroWasteOurFuture #ChooseReuse #BeyondCircularFashion #zerowaste #goforzerowaste #fashion #textiles #clothing #circulareconomy

In a recent The Guardian article it stated: 👉 "As many as 40% of clothes made each year – 60bn garments – are not sold" Overproduction and waste are rampant in the fashion industry, hidden behind non-transparent production volumes. Driven by quantity orders and retail cycles, tons of clothing are discarded. We need to cut consumption and reduce overproduction to meet our climate targets. Production norms and laws must also be overhauled for a stylish, sustainable fashion future. Two fashion brands that are working hard to make this happen VYN Sneakers and Asphalte. They both use surveys to understand exactly what their customers want so that they better understand their customers and, therefore, they don't overproduce products. #FastFashion #Climate #Clothing #Environment #waste

Upcycling is taking off with more brand partnerships in 2024 Pact has joined forces with Zero Waste Daniel to create an exclusive line of hoodies for both men and women that include hand-crafted, 100 percent upcycled patches. This capsule collection was developed to show consumers that sustainable fashion is accessible and serves a global purpose. We are inspired by both companies to join forces and tackle the global waste issue (over 100 billion units of clothing are produced every year and over 70% end up in landfills). Reuse, repurpose, and remanufacture all take the form of "upcycling" and can be customized to reinvent and reintroduce new products and new revenue streams by brands that are both good for people and the planet. We welcome a collaboration with such progressive brands as to take it a step further with digital AI tools to design and reuse fabric and inventory into new products by co-creating with customers in a B2B2C strategy and driving social and environmental impact. #upcycledfashion #upcyclingfashion #circulareconomy #circularfashion. https://lnkd.in/gf8bTTca

SUSTAINABILITY and CIRCULARITY, two highly mentioned words across the textile and apparel industry in the past months. The fundamental point of analysis lies in the fact that there is still a wide gap between the initiatives and interests: ⛓️💥Textile Industry + Apparel Producers & The Fashion industry + Brands. Until a full commitment-alignment between sectors and actors takes place, 2030 goals won’t be achieved, despite some progress. Governments could establish protocols and laws, but only full commitment of the actors will make things real. Technologies are available from the Textile Industry, is just a matter of the Fashion Industry + Brands to act on their side… #Sustainability #circularity #textileindustry #apparelindusty #textiletech #fashiontech #innovation #commitment #actions Article courtesy of: The Business of Fashion Sarah Kent.
