In May of 2023 we opened the doors to Genesis at Lucas, a dream that was several years in the making and could only have been achieved by the generosity of our community. Genesis at Lucas has allowed us to expand our reach, bringing help and hope to more women and children who are experiencing domestic violence at no cost and with no strings attached. Every aspect of Genesis at Lucas was intentionally planned, from the building layout to the custom artwork throughout so she has a calm, secure space to heal from the trauma of abuse.
We are so grateful to be celebrating the one year anniversary of our newest non-residential space and cannot thank our capital campaign donors enough for helping make our dream a reality. Your contributions have made an impact that will ripple through generations and will change lives in countless ways.
Here's to many more years of Genesis at Lucas 💗 https://lnkd.in/gikRFrh5

My personal philanthropy has a primary focus on the human rights of children and young people. Which is understandable when you hear my own story of childhood abuse and neglect.
I strongly believe that every child deserves to be loved, safe and able to thrive, no matter where they were born. I also believe that this is the responsibility of the whole community - not just the biological parents.
That is why I chose to apply to be a Trustee for Hope and Homes for Children and it was an absolute honour to be selected for this huge responsibility. As such, I have had the privilege to see the positive results of their incredible work, but there is so much more to be done.
Sadly, at least 5.4million children are currently separated from their families, shut away inside orphanages, and staggeringly 80% are not even orphans.
Orphanages are not the safe place we have been led to believe by decades of well meaning charity work and philanthropy. It is well researched and demonstrated that orphanages expose children to abuse, trafficking, and physical and psychological trauma that can last a lifetime.
📖🔬here is just one study https://lnkd.in/ejxvhEk7
No child should end up in an orphanage. There is ALWAYS a better solution.
Today is the UN #InternationalDayofFamilies and this marks the launch of HHC’s campaign #BacktoFamily. It’s an incredible and well thought out campaign, using #AI to protect the rights of children.

At the very least I encourage you to take a look at their website and learn more about the harmful effects of orphanages, what the alternative is and how #philanthropy has a catalytic role to play in this social movement https://lnkd.in/egzS5ua5
‼️Philanthropy should be about learning, so if you have been funding an orphanage and want to learn what you can do to help those children please get in touch with me today xx ‼️

The case study for Childhood Dreamstakes, a campaign we crafted with Gus for Comic Relief US, is now on our site.
By donating to help end childhood poverty, entrants had the opportunity to crush a car in a monster truck, devour a life-size cookie of themselves, befriend a penguin, and much more! From helping brainstorm prizes (surreal wonders as if dreamed-up by a child) to crafting a campaign identity (pulling inspiration from retro game shows) to rendering 3D models (can we get a little more cotton candy on this castle, please?), it was an absolute pleasure to craft the world’s silliest prizes for a world without childhood poverty.
It all culminated in building a website that not only served as a beautiful stage to let our renders shine, but effortlessly integrated within the larger Comic Relief ecosystem and their preferred donation platform. Special attention was paid to creating a frictionless UI/UX that guided users to donate generously to a great cause.
So, if you happen to see a hot air balloon with someone’s face on it, or a giant science fair volcano erupting, know that it’s more than a delightfully absurd celebration. It’s a symbol for a little less childhood poverty, a little more childhood.

The crew at Lectric Ebikes in #Phoenix, #Arizona, have been designing and building some of the most affordable, functional #zeroemission vehicles on the planet for years now.
This year, they partnered with Mr. Beast to donate $600,000 worth of e-bikes to people in need across the United States. The challenge with any philanthropic effort is finding the best way to put donor resources into the hands of people who can use them most effectively.
Screenshot from Beast Philanthropy’s video linked below.
To tackle this head-on, Mr Beast’s philanthropic arm, Beast Philanthropy, put out a call to its massive following, asking people to submit a video communicating their need. They received thousands of videos and filtered that down to 600 people on the internet.
From that shortlist, the team at Beast Philanthropy opened the floodgates and the wave of donations started. Some of the #ebikes were delivered by hand while others were shipped directly to the recipients. So many of them posted video responses of them unboxing their bikes, riding them for the first time, or sharing how their new electric bikes would change their lives.
It’s a powerful format that shows how singular actions like donating a bike — whether it be new, used, electric, or manual — can absolutely change people’s lives. It can be a simple act of paying for someone’s ticket on the bus or giving someone in need a ride to the store. Working through life one day at a time can sometimes be a slog, and this video was a great reminder to step out of our comfort zones to extend a helping hand whenever we’re able.
We don’t often think about people in the #US as having the same level of need as what we hear about from other countries around the world. But as with any society, there are people at the fringes suffering everyday. They struggle to make ends meet whether it be to support their family here in the States or to send the money they earn to their family overseas.
Mr. Beast shared a handful of the stories from the massive wave of e-bike donations in the video linked below. It’s a touching story that shows not only how massive corporations like Mr. Beast and Lectric Ebikes can make an impact (and are!), but also how people in each and every one of our communities across the nation and around the world are in need, and how every one of us can take a small step to make a positive impact in the lives of those around us.
This particular initiative is especially touching because it not only transforms people’s lives, it puts zero-emission transportation solutions into their hands and enables them to get to school, to work, and to run errands around town with zero emissions in a low-cost, low maintenance electric vehicle that just happens to be a Lectric Ebike.

IMPACT 23 Nonprofit Spotlight: Orange County United Way: Purpose Moment
Livi Kerszenbaum, MBA, Sr. Director, Corporate Social Responsibility, OC United Way
https://lnkd.in/gpJXZpVH
Livi Kerszenbaum opened with a personal story and sobering reminder that anything can happen to anybody at any time; describing the day her husband was severely injured in a motorcycle accident, rendering her as the sole provider for her family in an instant.
Kerszenbaum cited having savings, access to state assistance programs, and supportive families, friends, and employers as essential to getting through those difficult months. Unfortunately, many who are faced with adversity lack access to these crucial resources and support systems.
The 'OC Way' is about being there for one another, particularly during difficult times. Orange County United Way, a local independent nonprofit, epitomizes this ethos. Every dollar raised directly benefits the local community, impacting over a million lives last year alone.
OC United Way focuses on three key initiatives:
United For Financial Security
United For Student Success
United To End Homelessness
These initiatives support OC students in graduating high school, aid struggling families in regaining stability, and assist with housing support for the homeless.
OCUW operates 211, a free phone-call assistance program connecting tens of thousands of OC residents to vital health and human resources services. Kerszenbaum stressed, “Everybody needs help sometimes, but as humans we need to be of service.” She asserted that serving the collective good is human nature, citing an innate desire to contribute socially. Engaging in community service correlates with lower rates of anxiety and depression, higher overall happiness, and longer life expectancies.
Kerszenbaum concluded her presentation by inviting the audience to participate in a purposeful moment. Cards at each seat encouraged attendees to share words of encouragement for struggling veterans experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. Participants were asked to return the cards to Kerszenbaum, who explained that the messages would be distributed to local veterans facing these challenges.
