JRC has a wide range of scanners available. X-band offers greater resolution and detection of smaller targets, but is subject to interference from rain and seas. S-band radar has a longer range and less interference from rain and sea clutter, but has less sensitivity for small targets. The recent publication presents a simulation tool that can predict which intertape channel dimensions lead to effective in-plane air evacuation. The results from the models indicated that in-plane air evacuation through engineered intertape channel network with automated fiber placement (#AFP) is quick, and it takes only a few minutes to evacuate 99% of the air from large preforms like fuselage panels.
