New technologies like On-site image processing or 3D laser scanning technologies have many advantages for tracking the progress of buildings and vertical infrastructures. Still, their applications in linear (horizontal) infrastructure projects such as roads, rails, or bridges are limited. An elevated railway project, for instance, entails the construction of hundreds of locations in a specific order. Numerous laser sensors or digital cameras must be used to collect progress data efficiently. In contrast, high-resolution satellite images help circumvent such limitations and provide a snapshot of development throughout the project site. Satellite imagery can be acquired more quickly and cheaply than traditional ground-based methods, making it an attractive option for monitoring construction progress. In addition, satellite images can cover large areas very effectively, providing valuable information about the status of different parts of the project site. Conventional orthophotography uses sensors that cover relatively large areas and are designed for mapping projects typically achieving a Ground Sample Distance (GSD) of 6 inches (pixel size). But what if the objects you are photographing are smaller, more visual detail is needed, and features need quantifying? That’s where SI-SFAP comes to play. As part of a USDOT project “Remote Sensing in Transportation”, BOYLE and UNCC developed a patented method of using fixed-wing aircraft to photograph bridge decks over very large geographic areas throughout the United States, quickly and efficiently, to quantify bridge defects and to apply bridge deck ratings (dozens of bridges can be photographed statewide in a day with one aircraft). This approach provides a more objective and cost-effective system to improve the allocation of limited bridge deck rehabilitation dollars nationwide. This bridge deck image was captured at 1,000 feet AGL (Above Ground Level) at 160 MPH with a GSD<1 inch. Artificial Intelligence is used to identify visual defects, quantify them, and estimate the cost of repair. This article investigates the double-#reconfigurable #intelligent #surfaces (#RISs) channel characteristics and propose a #geometry-#based #triple-#cylinder #model, where the RIS subsurface/tile is enabled to assist #vehicle-#to-#vehicle (#V2V) systems and other elements are turned off. To determine tile locations on RIS surface, they formulate an optimization problem by maximizing the end-to-end channel gain and solve it using the #gradient #ascent (#GA) method. Following this, channel correlation function, channel capacity, and outage probability are derived according to the proposed model.
