The 2024 Olympics in Paris kicks off today and we're celebrating the incredible achievements of Girl Scout alums who've made their mark as Olympians! 🏅 Among these inspiring women is the legendary Florence Griffith Joyner, a five-time Olympic athlete, and one of the fastest women in history! Flo-Jo dominated track and field, winning 3 gold medals and 2 silver medals in the 1984 and 1988 Olympic games. She still holds the world records for both the 100m and 200m sprints, which she set in 1988! Her journey exemplifies the courage, confidence, and character, as well as the limitless potential within every Girl Scout. Stay tuned as we celebrate the achievements of more Girl Scout alums over the next few weeks! #girlscouts #paris2024 #olympics

"Never give up on your dreams, regardless of whether you have one leg or one arm. Believe that everything is possible. After 22 years of my career today I’m here at the Olympics." Paris 2024 - Comité d'organisation des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de 2024 is showing that these are a Games Wide Open by telling the stories about disability inclusion taking place at the Olympics. There have been two Paralympic athletes competing in the Olympics. Both in International Table Tennis Federation - ITTF, both in the women’s team competition, and both with a limb impairment. Speaking to Associated Press, Bruna Alexandre, who became the seventeenth athlete in history to compete in both Games and the first Brazilian, said this: “I think this is a lesson about inclusion, both in Brazil and around the world. This can motivate other people with disabilities. And it can be inspiring for everyone on the Olympic side as well. When they watch me play, they see that everything is possible. It’s a win-win situation, and it can open a lot of doors.” Some great insight into Bruna’s journey, and also that of Australia's Melissa Tapper here https://bit.ly/4fuQxvL and here https://bit.ly/4dvrmHo Both will be back in Paris for the Paralympics hoping to create more history. #inclusion #accessibility #disability #Paris2024 #Olympics #Paralympics #GamesWideOpen

The Paralympics were a fantastic celebration and demonstration of sport, and the power of representation, as this quote from Hannah Cockroft OBE, PLY, DL (made following her win in the women’s 100m T34) encapsulates... "In the call room this morning, someone told me, ‘I watched you in 2012 and that’s why I am here.’ I really hope there are some girls at home who are doing the same because that’s what it’s all about. Hopefully, today, some new dreams have been born." We highly recommend reading some more of the inspirational quotes from Paralympians at the 2024 Games here: https://lnkd.in/gVjK2-hv At Origins - The Patient Focused Specialists, we believe representation is crucial - not only in sports but also in healthcare. This is why we're dedicated to ensuring that the work we do in clinical research is inclusive and provides opportunities for all voices to be represented. Expert in Sport Management & Community Engagement | Elevating Athletic Excellence and Costumer Experience
The Paris 2024 Olympics will feature several mixed relay events, including: 4x400m Mixed Relay in athletics. Mixed Relay Triathlon. Marathon Race Walk Mixed Relay (new after Tokyo 2020) Why mixed relay events are instrumental in promoting gender equality in sports? - Increased Participation: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has introduced multiple mixed-gender events to promote gender diversity. - Gender balance: The 2024 Paris Olympics are set to have an equal number of male and female athletes, with half of the athlete spots designated for each gender. - Breaking Stereotypes: Mixed-gender sports help break the societal perception of sports being a “masculine activity.” - Teamwork and Mutual Respect: Mixed-gender sports foster a sense of equality and mutual respect among athletes. Mixed relay events encourages teamwork, communication, and cooperation regardless of gender✔
Today, the fastest women and men in the world will come together to take part in the mixed relay in Paris 2024. The mixed relay sees teams of four – two women and two men – go head-to-head across four laps of the athletics track. Did you know? 🎽 The 4x400m mixed relay was first introduced in Tokyo 2020 ❓ Individual teams decide which order their athletes run in ⏩ Male Olympians are on average six seconds faster than their female counterparts, so race strategies and mental tactics are heavily involved here The mixed relay is one of the very few sports where women and men were able to start competing at the same time; a fantastic way to celebrate allyship and joint endeavour through sport. The power of teamwork is unmatched. Visually impaired runner Libby Clegg and Paralympic guide, Chris Clarke, ran wrist to wrist, perfectly synchronized, and won gold in the 100-meter and 200-meter races at the Paralympic Games in 2016. Clarke didn’t qualify for England’s national team and couldn’t compete in the 2016 Olympics, but his journey wasn’t over. He and Clegg trained for two months together so the competition would feel as natural as possible—and it paid off! We’re highlighting remarkable #womeninsports history leading up to #Paris2024.
