💼 ✨ A week ago marked an important milestone for the Policy Lab as we participated in the international seminar: Links Between #GreenTransition Policy Interventions, #Environmental Sustainability and #Social Wellbeing in Europe. The seminar was held in Brussels as part of our GREENPATHS Project, which is the European #KnowledgeHub on Just Transition Pathways. 🌈 The seminar was insightful and set the stage for a promising year ahead in knowledge production towards a fair and sustainable Europe. It served as a catalyst for collaboration and action, fostering strategic dialogues to map policy-environment-society connections and shape institutional frameworks. Key highlights included presentations on the project's objectives and significance in the European context, as well as a showcase of GREENPATHS's first deliverables. 🚀 The seminar was organized by Transnational Institute (TNI), Friends of the Earth Europe (FoEE), Oxfam Intermón, and Universidad de Cantabria. I am looking forward to presenting at the Sustainable Finance, Climate & Managing Nature Related Risks and Opportunities programme. Together with my colleagues at the Univeristy of Edinburgh Business School, Bernice Maxton-Lee, Craig Mackenzie, Matthew Brander, Mengfei Jiang and Theodor Cojoianu, we will present and discuss the nexus of business and nature and why it’s important to think about nature-related issues. You should make it your business to better understand the importance and impacts of nature. This goes beyond being about the right thing to do. It’s about understanding and navigating nature dependencies, impacts, opportunities and risks along your value chain to be resilient and remain relevant.

Let’s take a deeper look into ROBIN’s Toolbox elements! 💡 Integrated into our Knowledge Platform, you will find multiple examples of regional Governance Models that have played a key role in regional bioeconomy development across multiple European regions. 💡 This resource provides a collection of diverse circular bioeconomy governance models designed for regional implementation across the EU. It considers various typology aspects such as governance mechanisms and constraints, territorial aspects, and sustainability objectives. Discover 20 regional governance models along with their aim, #environmental, #economic and #societal objectives and the actors involved in their development. 🌿Let’s begin interpreting research results into concrete regional policy actions with ROBIN project knowledge!

The paper "Environmental Sustainability and the Economic Complexity: Policy Implications for a New Developmentalism Strategy", which was written by me, Helder Lara Ferreira Filho, and José Luis Oreiro, was published as a Post-Keynesian Economics Society Working Paper. This paper discusses some policy insights for a new developmentalism strategy related to forestland changes from the central relations between environmental sustainability and economic complexity. What does the future tell us about what we are doing now? This is a fundamental question all policy makers should be thinking about. The future has many voices. Some louder than others. Foresight provides a bag of tools and ideas to detect signals, imagine scenarios and create reactions. In short to do things differently and create better outcomes. Now, thanks to the work of Laura De Vito, the Sustainable Futures team at Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government and in co-operation with the The Office of the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales Derek Walker University of the West of England ESRC: Economic and Social Research Council we in Wales have our own report to help guide our work in this area - drawing on international examples but specific and relatable to Wales. #SMUYPHSL’s Prof Dan W. Puchniak recently presented his award-winning research at the University of Cambridge’s Centre for Climate Engagement. During the invitation-only discussion dinner, Prof Puchniak emphasised that Asia should no longer be overlooked in the ostensibly global corporate purpose debate. Prof Brian Cheffins from Cambridge University commenced the evening by generously introducing Professor Puchniak, highlighting his academic accomplishments and leadership in comparative corporate law, particularly in the Asian context. Prof Puchniak provided insights into his recent award-winning article, '𝙉𝙤 𝙉𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘼𝙨𝙞𝙖 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙒𝙤𝙠𝙚: 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙭𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘼𝙣𝙜𝙡𝙤-𝘼𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙖’𝙨 '𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮' 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙤𝙧𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙋𝙪𝙧𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚’, and its implications for addressing climate change. Leading academics and practitioners engaged in in-depth discussions about his research.
