Positive moves towards achieving universal health coverage will be one of the most significant contributions digital health applications will make to the future of healthcare delivery and management in South Africa during the next decade. Key to this will be the role it will play in breaking “the proverbial Iron Triangle”, i.e. perennial issues surrounding the interoperability between access, quality and cost. This was one of the main points emphasised in a Smart Health Africa Summit Fireside Chat between Dr Unben Pillay, ASAIPA - THE ALLIANCE OF SOUTH AFRICAN IPA'S CEO and Summit convenor, and Discovery Health CEO, Dr Ron Whelan, in a candid introductory discussion on the future of healthcare in the next decade, the impact of AI on healthcare delivery, the vision of having a doctor in every home (or every hand), ensuring patients remain at the centre of the health system, and protecting data and patient confidentiality. #Healthcare #HealthSystems #HealthcareDelivery #SmartHealthAfrica Read more and join the conversation by registering on our free networking platform for African healthcare professionals. ## A Powerful Point from Uganda's Digital Health Conference The 2023 Uganda Digital Health Conference offered a wealth of insights, but one message from the Permanent Secretary of Health particularly resonated with me. They emphasized the importance of investing in **mindset change** alongside digital health solutions. This struck a chord. Technology is a powerful tool, but it's only as effective as the people who use it. For digital health to truly enhance patient care delivery in Uganda (and beyond), we need healthcare workers, patients, and communities to be ready and empowered to leverage its potential. This means: Building digital literacy: Equipping healthcare professionals and patients with the skills and confidence to use new technologies effectively. Addressing digital access gaps:Ensuring everyone has the opportunity to participate in the digital health revolution. Promoting trust and data privacy: Building trust in how health data is collected, stored, and used. What are your thoughts on this? How can we ensure a successful transition to a digital future in healthcare? Let's discuss in the comments! #digitalhealth #uganda #healthcare #mindset #innovation # Assoc. Prof. Dr. med.
