President Cyril Ramaphosa was supposed to be presiding over the signing of the second Presidential Health Compact at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Thursday, 15 August, but this, according to informed reports, has apparently been postponed to the following Thursday, 22 August. Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) gave notice in an early Wednesday 14 August media statement that it would not be signing compact because “it cannot support a policy that explicitly endorses the NHI Act in its current form” and had already notified the President accordingly in writing. In commemoration of Women’s Day, the South African Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (SASOG) highlighted the ongoing challenges and improvements needed to advance the socio-economic rights and empowerment of women in South Africa and beyond.
