To #EndHumanTrafficking, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) from the Horn of Africa unite in #Kenya: The 8th Regional Forum of the East and Horn of Africa Anti-Trafficking Network #EHAAT, which includes 116 CSOs from the region, is taking place with its newly appointed lead organisation Freedom Collaborative, Inc., taking over from the Better Migration Management (BMM) Programme. Participants identify common challenges, find shared solutions, and pave the way for the coming year to increase collaboration and fill gaps in the provision of protection and care services to migrants and survivors of trafficking, especially off the beaten track. This was made possible through the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH-coordinated BMM Programme, funded by the European Union and Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). #EndHumanTrafficking #CivilSocietyOrganisation #Forum #TeamEurope #TEI

📌 Today is the World Day Against #Trafficking What do we do for that ❓ 🌟 At GIZ, we try to have greater impact through #unity and #cooperation. #NaxtaActivities: CHAPTER 1 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 🌐 Our firm assists local authorities in the process of administrative decentralization and local development, primarily in #Libya 🇱🇾 where it has been operating for more than 10 years through a participatory process aimed at supporting the definition of local governance strategies and actively involving municipalities, the central level and civil society. The goal is to consolidate the technical capacities of municipalities as well as their relational capacities towards central government and local actors involved in the local development process, such as universities, civil society and NGOs. 🌍 From 2023 to the present, we have collaborated with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Libyan Ministry of Local Governance on three projects involving officials from more than 60 Libyan municipalities aimed at strengthening local public administration, service delivery to citizens, and land relations. Today INTERSOS, together with global partners, participated in a crucial dialogue on Humanitarian Principles at the Civil 7 Summit in Rome. “Humanitarian principles are our guideline - said Kostas Moschochoritis, INTERSOS’ General Director - they provide ethical and practical humanitarian framework for even the most challenging contexts and enable us to provide aid regardless of who or where people in need are”. Humanitarian principles are crucial to providing needs-based aid in complex crises. Today the foundations of humanitarian action are increasingly jeopardised by growing violations of International Humanitarian Law, which too often remain unpunished. In this panel discussion, esteemed humanitarian representatives from Yemen, Burkina Faso, and Europe analysed the main challenges for local and international NGOs. At a time when challenges to humanitarian space have become pervasive with rise in number of conflicts and changes in the dynamics of conflicts, there is increasing need for safeguarding humanitarian space. This latest policy brief outlines recommendations how this can be done.

This post of Emma Beals in the Conflict Sensitivity Facility (CSF) is very important. I like her approach and that of other colleagues (in this and other articles) in problematizing issues around humanitarian access. There is here a paragraph on #localization that is worth pulling out on its own—especially now that international relief organizations and UN agencies are walking again in #Darfur, like in Geneina, after months of being off-limits for them. Indeed, relief and even mediation was still happening during these months by the most local of the local actors and networks. Here it goes: “In line with the humanitarian imperative of meeting needs, a number of successful locally-led initiatives are already in motion in the hard-to-reach areas in western Sudan. These efforts focused on securing humanitarian corridors and ceasefires, rehabilitation work, and meeting the needs of those displaced by the violence when others were not present. However, as the centralised aid system scales up its cross-border response into Western Sudan, these efforts are being overlooked. Scaling up operations in the West is vital but should be done in consultation and collaboration with local actors wherever possible, to ensure that local initiatives are not undermined.”

It is a migration dialogue serving as a platform for political cooperation amongst the countries along the migration route between the Horn of Africa and Europe.
