As cities and municipalities grapple with housing their citizens, solution to the housing shortage should go beyond just creating more housing. It is also about building sustainable communities that offer residents a safe, healthy, and comfortable existence in the long term without jeopardizing the living conditions of future generations. The new settlements should be energy-efficient and environmentally friendly and include basic services such as healthcare, kindergartens, schools, and social infrastructure. Excited to be in Namibia with a few municipalities from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia, South Africa and Namibia exploring best possible paths to offer low-cost housing. Comes out that 2/3 of the cities that will exist in 2050 haven't been built yet

My team and I had the invaluable support of local community members for ground truthing. Their insights significantly enhanced the accuracy of our spatial data, leading to more precise and effective land use strategies. Involving community members in the land use planning process is crucial for several reasons: - - Community members possess intimate knowledge of their land and its history, which is indispensable for accurate and effective planning. - When communities are actively involved, they feel a sense of ownership and empowerment, leading to better acceptance and long-term sustainability of the plans. - Engaging local communities ensures that cultural and social aspects are respected and integrated into the planning process. Working collaboratively with the community enriches the project outcomes while strengthening the relationship between land use planners and the community thereby building trust and cooperation. This is absolutely true. Ignoring and not considering their culture and local wisdom often cause a community conflict and distrust. Recently we are experiencing an issue of trust deficit the community openly express in every meeting. Though they are enlightened and assured that whatever had happened previously was bad and condemned. But the time the authority was implementation the project, the community engagement was not considered and after sometime people resisted and stopped the project operation. The reason behind the project failure was no-consideration of environmental and social risks and mitigation measures. Therefore enough time and time energy should invest to assess the level of impact and plan mitigation measures for timely and smooth execution. Other than that we ignore knowingly or unknowingly real stakeholders during assessment and project planning, leads to conflicting situations.

N$6.5bn needed to meet Namibia’s housing demands by 2028 The Ministry of Urban and Rural Development says it will need N$6.5 billion by 2028 to meet the country's growing housing demands. According to the Director of Habitat and Housing Development at the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development, Big-Don Kondunda, the annual budget allocated to the Ministry's housing programs is projected to surge eightfold by 2028, rising from N$750 million in 2023 to N$6.5 billion in 2028. https://lnkd.in/dcwgS8mg #namibia #housing #urbanpopulation
