Minister Hussen began his visit to #Guatemala at a migrant and refugee assistance centre, where he spoke with members of the International Organization for Migration and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, as well as with local authorities and migrants. They discussed the challenges faced by, and the precarious conditions that disproportionally impact, women and girls affected by migration and forced displacement, The Minister was able to see first-hand how #Canada, in working with these partners, supports initiatives to reinforce the safety and well-being of women and girls by improving living conditions and protection mechanisms. "Australia is undoubtedly facing a number of critical challenges including but not limited to housing, infrastructure congestion, cost of living, pressure on welfare and social services, cost and transition of energy. To lay blame at the feet of migrants and refugees is not only inaccurate and unjust, but could be harmful to our national interest in a global competition for skills and capital. The solution is not as simple as dramatically reducing our migrant and refugee intake, but rather the critical task of strategic policy reform that allows our economy and society to grow in a more sustainable way including more affordable housing and cleaner energy. " #refugeeweekAU
Migrants and refugees are part of the solution to Australia’s critical challenges, not its cause. Huy Truong, Co-founder and Executive Chairman of Thrive Refugee Enterprise, shares his thoughts on how we can do better in our approach to migration and refugees. The recent discussion on cutting permanent migration and the humanitarian program has raised a strong sense of dejavu – and not in a good way. I was studying in the US in 1997 when One Nation and its warnings about ‘being swamped’ by Asians and need to cut migration first appeared in the public and political discourse. I have to say, as an Asian Australian refugee, it was incredibly confronting and uncomfortable. Not surprisingly, I was asked by a number of Americans and other nationalities for my response... When we continue to encourage a mediocre #political class that, in order to divert citizens' eyes from the real problems that they have contributed to creating, prepares non-existent problems that they cannot solve: #UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has taken note of the speech delivered by the #UK Home Secretary in #Washington today, in which she raised a number of questions regarding the role of the Refugee Convention in the context of today’s global #displacement challenges. The #Refugee Convention is the cornerstone of the international refugee #protection regime and remains a life-saving instrument that ensures millions of #people fleeing conflict and #persecution each year can access #safety and #protection across borders. There are 35.3 million #refugees #worldwide, with 70 per cent remaining in countries neighbouring their own and 76 per cent hosted in low- and middle-income countries. https://lnkd.in/exezszXP

The @GlobalRefugeeForum2023 is scheduled to be held from 13th to 15th December in Geneva UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency The GlobalCompactOnRefugees is rooted in principles of humanity and international solidarity. It aims to put into action the principles of burden-and responsibility-sharing to enhance the protection and assistance provided to refugees, as well as to support host countries and communities. This compact aligns with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and is based on the fundamental principle of non-refoulement as outlined in the 1951 Convention and its 1967 Protocol. The global compact sets out four main objectives: to alleviate the burden on host countries, to promote self-reliance among refugees, to increase opportunities for settlement in third countries, and to support conditions in countries of origin for safe and dignified returns. #UNCharter #1951RefugeeConvention #1967Protocol #NonRefoulement #GlobalCompact #GlobalRefugeeForum #unhcrsouthernafrica

versatile leader with strong technology skills, effective team management, strategic decision-making, and exceptional communication
Sir Richard Branson is one of a very few people of a select minority in powerful positions actively supporting everyday causes that effect the majority, and this article from Virgin's website briefly mentions how i always approach problems, and that is resolve the root cause of the problem and have changes ripple down stream. I do not know the answer, but addressing the root causes of the global refugee crisis, as mentioned in the article, is complex and often stem from internal civil conflicts. These problems require many Branson like individuals to collaborate their resources, power and voices. Powerful people and organisations can take several actions to help resolve these and possibly other problems. Firstly provide immediate relief and support to displaced families so they are not forced to flee their country. Work with local governments and advise changes to policies to promote stability, ultimately leading to something towards peace. Invest in countries to develop their economy.
What is already the worst refugee crisis in human history is likely to worsen in the years to come. Here’s my thoughts on the role business can play. https://virg.in/3VNoekg #WorldRefugeeDay UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency International Rescue Committee TERN - The Entrepreneurial Refugee Network Breaking Barriers

PERPETUAL CONFLICT --> PERPETUAL SYMPATHY --> PERPETUAL AID + $$$$ --> PERPETUAL STOLEN AID BY HAMAS. --> PERPETUAL GROWING TERRORISM. Stop the payoff.
HonestReporting talks about the difference between all the other refugees in the world and the Palestinian refugees. When it comes to refugees, most are looked after by the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. However, Palestinians have their own agency, UNRWA. So what's going on here? UNRWA prolongs the refugee crisis and sustains this ongoing conflict by passing refugee status down generations. Making them unique and self perpetuating. Curious 🧐

#UNGA kicked off this week in NY. In the words of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency’s High Commissioner Filippo Grandi: “110 million refugees and displaced are damning proof that we’re off target in achieving the #2030Agenda. But realizing its goals would address many of the causes that force people to flee….Less catchy than “close the borders” but surely more effective.” We’re at the UN this week to deliver the message that refugees and displaced people everywhere need and deserve truly inclusive policies and sustained international support. But most importantly - refugees need peace. #withrefugees #globalgoals #unga78
