Here's a fact about me I bet you didn't know! Nature has always been my greatest teacher. I've long believed that adventure and the outdoors are pathways to growth, pushing us beyond our comfort zones and revealing our true potential. This belief is what led me to start Women Who Hike Africa (now Watu wa Hike), in 2017. Through this venture, I've had the privilege of transforming lives—witnessing countless individuals who once doubted their abilities stand tall on summits they never thought they could reach. It’s incredible how one climb can change a person’s mindset, proving that we are all capable of more than we think. This passion caught the attention of the Feminist Hiking Collective, leading to an incredible opportunity with the Mountain Partnership of the United Nations. Together, in 2021, we embarked on a collective research project contributing to the 2022 report, "Mountain Women of the World: Challenges, Resilience, and Collective Power". The study drew from in-depth interviews with 313 mountain women across eight countries - Argentina, Chile, Italy, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Bolivia, and Tanzania, exploring their lives and the unique challenges they face in a post-COVID-19 world. Just yesterday, we submitted an abstract for review at the upcoming 2nd Southern African Mountain Conference (SAMC2025), and I’m excited to see where this journey takes us next! Honored to be among this year's awardees in the WE Empower UN SDG Challenge for the achievements and efforts Carbfix continues to make in having a real impact on climate recovery through scaling underground mineral storage of #CO2 in partnership with responsible partners. Over the past few days we have unfortunately broken record for the hottest days recorded on Earth yet again, showing that in spite of a lot of climate commitments and talk over the past few years, we are not seeing the associated action needed to bend the curve towards climate recovery. This must change.

Yesterday, I received this powerful message from my friend Omondi Peter, and nothing could be more valid than this. But first, let me share my thoughts: Not all changemakers will be able to join the Summit of the Future, often due to financial barriers or other limitations. The reality is, while some of us are given the opportunity to be in those rooms, there are millions of passionate leaders, activists, and individuals around the world taking action every single day, despite not having the resources to be present. Their absence doesn't diminish their impact. The challenge is ensuring their voices are still heard, their efforts are recognized, and their contributions are part of the global movement. Peter’s message reads: "From the 22nd to the 27th of September, Heads of States and selected individuals will gather at the UN HQ in New York to discuss critical global issues. But I want you to think about this: while not more than 3000 people will be in New York, the world has 8 billion people taking local actions every day. What are we doing to ensure they are not left behind and that their voices are heard? How do we turn all the talks into action and stay accountable for what we promise? It’s time we all step up and think about how we can drive the change we want to see. Achieving the SDGs by 2030 requires more than a week of conversations—it demands follow-through, commitment, and collaboration from everyone. To those of us involved in the Summit of the Future and UNGA 79, ask yourself: Why are you involved, and what are you doing to drive the change we all want to see in the world? It's time to shift how things are done. Talk should not be cheap—more open and transparent collaboration is needed." My thoughts are simple: Being in these rooms is a privilege, but it is also a responsibility. For those of us fortunate enough to be present, we must ensure we represent those who couldn’t be there due to financial or logistical challenges. The world doesn’t change in meetings; it changes through the actions we take after them. Let’s turn talk into real, measurable action and hold each other accountable. 2024 couldn't start any better !✨🇨🇭🌳 I'm honored to be one of the 50 chosen world young leaders to represent Colombia and Latin America as a Global Shaper from the Bogota Hub at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland 🇨🇭🌎. Born out of the World Economic Forum, the Global Shapers Community is a network of inspiring young people working together to address local, regional, and international challenges. This event gathers 100+ governments, NGOs, business leaders, entrepreneurs and the media, to address the critical global challenges: - Security and cooperation. - Creating growth and jobs. - Leveraging Artificial Intelligence. - Developing a long-term strategy for climate and energy. Continuing business as usual hoping for a technological solution to the planetary crisis is like playing Russian roulette with your children. We are stuck because the current order functions with: a socioeconomic structure that incentivises greed and overconsumption. a political system that amplifies division and extremism a cultural consciousness rooted in individualism and separation from life Tech amplifies and sometimes encourages these tendencies. But what if it were possible to transform this system through: care (including self-care) critical consciousness connection and coordination Ecologist and systems theorist Joanna Macy coined the expression: The Work that Reconnects. Women for the Environment Africa is a mission-driven, deep-ecology, high-touch fellowship. It brings together visionary women leaders from across the continent who are standing for decolonising conservation, putting women at the heart of Africa’s environmental movement.
