What is Homogenous Beauty? 👉 It is a disturbing trend that has emerged in the foothills of today’s beauty landscape - the pursuit of a homogenous, globalised beauty ideal; an idealised beauty standard encompassing different aspects from around the globe. · Rounded hips, bum, and breasts. · Slim arms, calves, and stomach. · A tiny waist and "honey" skin tone. 👉 This new and ethnically ambiguous beauty ideal promotes features that can appeal across races but rarely represents anyone’s natural appearance. It’s a look that is increasingly unattainable without artificial intervention and is promoted through social media filters and cosmetic enhancements. This is a beauty standard that ensures that everyone must "self-improve" to meet these ideals. 👉 The result? An unrealistic standard that is set so high that it creates a belief in everyone that they are flawed, fuelling industries to sell solutions to "fix" these perceived imperfections. ❓ What can we do? We need to 💪 Challenge the narrative and keep promoting diverse beauty standards that reflect the reality of different body shapes, skin tones, and ethnic features. 💪 Focus on individuality, emphasising each individual’s unique characteristics and encourage embracing one’s own look, whatever that may be. 💪 Educate, educate, educate to help people become aware of the impact of social media filters and beauty augmentation that are encouraging these unrealistic expectations and ideals. 💪 Encourage representation by using our consumer power wisely to encourage brands and media to regularly feature a wide range of appearances rather than a narrow, globalised beauty ideal. After receiving some great questions following my last post, I wanted to dive deeper into the journey of reviving Skin & Tonic and shed some light on what went down with the old brand. Background Check 🌟 Back in 2015, Skin & Tonic burst onto the scene thanks to the vision of a dynamic duo. It all started when the wife, fed up with synthetic beauty products wreaking havoc on her skin, decided to take matters into her own hands. Over the course of seven years, they crafted an incredible line of beauty essentials, harnessing the power of organic ingredients, cutting down on plastics, and staying true to their commitment of cruelty-free testing. And guess what? We're still proudly showcasing and selling this amazing range today! But Where Did Things Go Off Track? 🤔 Despite pouring heart and soul into the brand, sales just weren't hitting the mark. Add to that some ballooning overhead costs, and things started to spiral. The solution? A dynamic team and a data-driven approach, which is why I've joined the journey!
