Global Disability Inclusion, LLC’s Post

CNN reports HK Express apologizes after removing two blind men from a flight for "safety reasons". The men were escorted onto the plane and then the crew who realized they were not traveling with a care giver removed them from the plane. The airline later determined the passengers could fly safely without a companion. #AccessibleTravel #DisabledAndCapable #DisabilityInclusion Blind Union Hong Kong | Cathay Pacific | ID: An image of a HK Express plane on the tarmac.

Well, this is appalling and not surprising. We need a global culture shift around the perception of Disability. Education, representation, advocacy, we need more of all of it. Thanks for being in the trenches fighting this fight. It’s exhausting.

Unfortunately the crew likely thought they were providing a safe experience for the two men by removing them, this is indicative of a lack of training proved to employees in the front line to help them better understand the abilities that our people with disabilities communities have.
