KTI participated as a speaker at the Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on UNIDO’s Blue Industry Contribution to the Blue Economy Agenda, organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) from 2 to 4 December 2024. 🤝 This meeting successfully brought together diverse perspectives and expertise to address the opportunities and challenges in advancing sustainable and inclusive Blue Industries globally. Over the past three days, we explored key sectors, thematic areas, and regional dynamics, laying the groundwork for actionable priorities in our future efforts. KTI’s valuable insights and recommendations have significantly enriched the discussions and strengthened the foundation for the next steps in developing UNIDO’s programmatic framework for Blue Industry. 📢 Leadership Change at SBTi: Luiz Amaral Steps Down Luiz Amaral, CEO of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), has announced his resignation effective end of July. His departure comes amid controversy over SBTi's decision to integrate carbon offsetting into its methodology, which faced backlash from experts such as Bill Baue and companies like H&M, who stress the need for absolute emission reductions. SBTi must now reaffirm its commitment to science-based climate targets. Susan Jenny Ehr will serve as interim CEO during this critical transition. With 5,500 companies having validated targets and another 3,200 in the pipeline, the #integrity and #transparence of SBTi's guidance must be improved.
