Strap in - 2024 is going to be a massively busy and interesting time for those of us interested in politics and public affairs. Here are the thoughts I shared with PRWeek on what to expect in the coming year: “2024 is going to be a transformative year – half the world’s population are going to the polls as the conflicts in Israel/Gaza and Russia/Ukraine show no sign of being resolved. Organisations will need to navigate the rapidly changing political environment, seeking to influence appropriately the direction of policy and understand the impact of the outcomes not just on their businesses but on the communities and economies in which they operate. The smart consultancies and in-house teams will be working through scenarios now, getting the businesses and clients ready to leverage the opportunities and manage the risks – it is going to be busy.” Hill & Knowlton

At Herocrats, we share stories about public servants who are leading positive change. But unfortunately the stories that often get the most attention on social media and elsewhere are the negative ones. Check out these tips for how government agencies can get their good news out there. https://lnkd.in/gyY5GxJF
When we at Barrett and Greene Inc. give speeches about a wide variety of topics related to #stategovernment and #localgovernment, during the Q&A session, someone often asks: “There’s so much good happening in our government. How come the press never seems interested in anything but bad news?” Candidly, part of the reason is that bad news often gets more hits on the Internet than does good news, and in a world of journalism that lives and dies by the click that's a big factor. But state and local leaders can take matters into their own hands and improve the chances that they'll get their story across. In the latest B&G Report Barrett and Greene Inc. provides six tips to help accomplish just that (and they're not for public information officers only!) 🔮 What does 2024 hold? AI's march forward, Labour's rising influence, and the sustainability surge - it's all on the radar! Instinctif’s Managing Director, Moray Macdonald joins leading public affairs practitioners to share his prediction for 2024 with PRWeek. "...We are seeing a much bigger focus on a request for integrated communications. That trend is going to increase through 2024 as agencies and clients see public affairs as central to campaigns seeking to gain influence and impact. Election years are often quieter for public affairs work; however, with such an obvious election outcome the focus on building new relationships, and the need to influence policy, this looks set to be a busy year for lobbyists.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eKNkYxnR #2024Predictions #PR

Taking a critical look at National Media Commission v Attorney General, the motive of the framers of the 1992 constitution was to make the media free from the interference from governmental control and the judgement of the case supported it.If it were to be the President acting in consultation with National Media Commission,it would have led to the government controlling it but if you look at article 168 of the 1992 constitution,it is clear that the National Media Commission acting in consultation with the President in terms appointment of chief executives officers of state owned media. My point is that if we would want the state owned media and media in general to be independent, then I think the President should not appoint chief executive of National Media Commission to make it truly independent by the media having some internal mechanisms for the appointment to such office.
