It's #FAQFriday! Q: I Have Heard That Some Graduates Miss Out On Internship. Is This True? A: Whilst it is theoretically a possibility that some medical graduates miss out on Internship according to information provided by HETI for the most recent year of intern applications no-one was actually left at the end of the process without an offer. Only Australian citizens and permanent residents are guaranteed an intern position under the COAG agreement. However, there are generally enough intern positions available for those students who have come to Australia to study medicine and the Commonwealth Private Hospital program offers additional spaces for those that may miss out. That being said. It is also clear that many graduates choose to drop out of the application process themselves. So not everyone who applies gets an offer. The assumption is that some graduates take up similar intern opportunities in other countries upon graduation.

After years of medical school, internship, residency and for some, fellowship - you finally become the attending physician, or in some countries, the consultant doctor. I’ve been at several conference panels where residents and fellows asked what they should know before being an attending physician. In the panels, there are attending physicians who are in private practice and in academia. I am surprised to hear the same themes coming up over and over again. I am going to share 5 things you need to know so that you get the ground running as you transition into your new job. Chiropractic, a passion that sits close to the heart for reasons such as this… Primary Contact… and Chiropractic both are at the forefront of my clinical practice. The importance of primary contact health has become evident through this case. The importanace of effective communication and clinical judgement was highlighted here. ⚠️ Do you know a young medical intern? ⚠️ As medical professionals, we often prioritize the health of our patients while sometimes neglecting our own. Recognizing the intense demands of a medical internship, it’s crucial to emphasize the importance of good nutrition for our young doctors embarking on this challenging journey. Being married to doctor, I know how busy and demanding it can get, meal times are late and often missed! Some nutrition is better than none! No end to woes of FMGs as they continue with unpaid internships Several medical colleges and hospitals have completely abolished the seats for FMG interns, citing lack of funds as the reason The issue of Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) not receiving stipends has been a cause for concern for a long time. Recently, while hearing a writ petition, the Supreme Court directed Medical colleges to pay a stipend to FMG interns, in parity with the domestic MBBS interns. Overlooking the SC observations and NMC provisions, several medical colleges have overlooked this provision, instead, a few colleges have asked the FMG interns to submit authorised affidavits, confirming that they would not demand a stipend during their internship. Also, a few medical colleges have completely withdrawn the seats for FMG candidates. https://lnkd.in/grHVfGK2

A large-scale walkout by trainee doctors and new medical school graduates refusing to take internships is intensifying in opposition to the government's plan to increase the number of medical students. As a result, major hospitals are experiencing delays in operating schedules and a shortage of on-duty doctors. The government raised its healthcare service crisis gauge to the highest level in response to the departure of doctors, while doctors argue that focus should be on protecting them from malpractice suits and improving compensation to induce more physicians to practice in unpopular areas. #AsiaRisk #StrikesandWorkStoppages #SouthKorea Follow us for daily updates on risk and operations in Asia! https://lnkd.in/ghbQZZ6n
