Last week, members of our heat reduction team were in both Singapore and New Delhi attending the Asia Carbon Summit and Asia Climate Summit! Sajini Patel, GHR Methodology Developer, said the Asia Climate Summit “was not only a stage for fostering meaningful collaborations but also a testament to the ambitious strides our sector is making toward a resilient, climate-secure world.” Esther Soh, GHR Senior Growth Manger, attended the Asia Carbon Summit and brought back the following insights: ⭐ Dr. Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment, emphasized the necessity of a strong data infrastructure, like the Climate Action Data Trust, to enhance trust in the mitigation value chain. ⭐Kyle Harrison from BloombergNEF shared about the rising demand for VCM credits, which increased by 26% annually from 2016-2021. Sectors like NBS and regenerative agriculture are critical, not only for emissions reductions but also for broader environmental co-benefits. ⭐Hard-to-abate sectors like aviation face significant hurdles in transitioning to sustainable fuels. Zita Schellekens from KLM Royal Dutch Airlines spoke about the high cost and low supply of SAF, while Daniel Ng from Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore brought up the question on how to distribute the cost burden incurred from using SAF between airlines and their customers. Next up, our team is headed to San Jose, California to attend #VERGE24 this week – we'll have a panel tomorrow, October 29, and an exhibiting booth. See you there! I am looking forward to speaking at the Climate & Environment Conference at the World Future Energy Summit tomorrow at Abu Dhabi. A resilient and environmentally harmonious future is non-negotiable for our planet and all the lives it supports. How will companies and societies bridge the gap between ambition and tangible action? What will be the role of progressive legislation in facilitating a just transition? Nature-based solutions can offer businesses a way to strike a balance between business and climate ambitions. By harnessing the regenerative capacity of ecosystems, organisations can make a tangible impact. Consumers and voters all over the world are demanding a lot more from the institutions and companies that they support. I plan to highlight how companies are approaching this opportunity to make a true difference and will outline examples for those seeking inspiration. At Sacred Groves, we are privileged to work with progressive individuals and organisations who are innovating by including nature based outcomes in their revenue model (Conservation Commerce) and reducing their waste footprint (Junk to Jungles). Event Details: 16th April 15:15 - 16:00 Topic: Harmonising with nature: A path to mitigate business emissions, World Future Energy Summit, Abu Dhabi Panel: Benjamin Schroeder Nadia Ibrahim Leena Al Olaimy Caroline Slootweg Vahid Fotuhi https://lnkd.in/d-mwgZNV

After 4 profoundly enriching years at CLC within the public service, I am excited to re-enter the engineering realm to address some pressing challenges across the ASEAN region. Following policy developments closely over the past few years, I hope to outline my focus for this new journey across three key areas. #Decarbonisation: The transition to net zero emissions is a rapidly evolving discourse, driven by shifting multilateral agreements, regulatory, and financial landscapes. As engineers, our focus is more fundamental, addressing how emissions are monitored most accurately in industries. Traditionally, emission monitoring has been compliance-driven, often meeting minimal regulatory standards. There's now a new impetus to enhance monitoring for ESG performance and unlocking opportunities such as Emission Trading Schemes. The question arises whether online GHG monitoring should be standardized akin to criteria pollutants so that industry stakeholders can holistically consider compliance and transition risks and new financial opportunities in upgrading process design and technologies. #ClimateResilience: While developed countries in temperate zones primarily confront extreme climate risks like hurricanes and storm surges, our region grapples with the persistent threat of urban heat in tropical climates. The recent heatwave across ASEAN underscored the significance of this issue, highlighting its severe impact on health and productivity. Notably, Singapore has taken proactive measures by issuing public health advisories on heat stress since 2023, facilitated by the WBGT sensors we proposed and implemented back in 2019. As micro-climate data gains prominence for operational monitoring across various sectors, the challenge lies in building cost-effective sensor systems that are both scalable and fit-for-purpose. Moreover, beyond mere measurements, industries require actionable insights to ensure both safety and performance. #EnvironmentalAnalytics: While much progress has been made in environmental policy development in this region, challenges persist driven by rapid urban growth and economic aspirations to become the next manufacturing powerhouse. The transition away from fossil fuels remains a gradual process. Managing urban pollution amidst population growth, complex emission patterns, and climate change effects necessitates a shift from conventional pass/fail assessment premised on worst-case scenarios and statistical over-simplifications towards more sophisticated decision-support systems leveraging big data and AI. Singapore, with its more advanced knowledge economy and reputation for sustainability, has the potential to develop local expertise and innovative solutions to drive the green transition of this region. I look forward to reconnecting with our professional network, and collaborate with the best technology and solution providers to explore these opportunities. Let's chat if you share the same interests 😀

Helping businesses and brands become recognized for their best💡Head of Communications 🌍 Passionate about creating change, encouraging everyone to enter the green energy sector.
🌍 When we need new voices and new perspectives, TED Conferences rarely disappoint! I’ve been following how the program is building up, the exciting lineup of thought-provoking talks by TEDxBerlin next month in the former Berlin-Tegel airport is shaping up to be truly inspiring, and I learned that even more speakers will join. 🔬 New voices in climate research - yes, global warming is accelerating. 🔥 New insights from the heating sector - responsible for approximately 25% of global CO2 emissions. ✈️ Voices from pioneers decarbonizing aviation - a German-based global logistics company is doing more for sustainable air travel than all other commercial airlines combined. ♻️ How society is understanding (or not) the advantages of sustainability – ideology or economic growth opportunity? 📢 Climate activism - because the world needs it. Some voices we know well may have faded, but new ones are emerging. 💡 Green energy, new business opportunities and financing - for the first time, more money is being poured into renewables than fossil fuels. The energy transition is happening, and it is unstoppable. Change can be challenging for many, but the green energy pioneers are now catching the tailwinds, while the naysayers start to struggle against the storm.
