🚛 Western Australia is home to some of the largest trucks in the world, with road trains varying in length from 27.5 metres up to 60 metres long. Sharing the road with these heavy vehicles requires common sense and care to ensure safety for all road users. It’s important to comprehend the substantial size and weight difference between a road train and an average car to understand how to safely interact with and overtake road trains when on the road. To give you a visual, a 🚛 60-metre road train is equivalent to having 🚗 12 average-sized cars lined up bumper to bumper. That's a whole convoy on the move! Plus, a loaded road train can weigh over 140 times more than the average sedan. With this extra length and weight, road trains take much longer to stop than a car - In fact it would take a fully loaded road train travelling at 100 km/h approximately 🚗 40 standard car lengths (over 200 metres) to come to a stop! So, for your own safety, ensure you leave plenty of room for heavy vehicles on the road. Truck drivers may not have enough room to stop if you cut in front of them, and if you follow too closely behind a road train, the driver may not see you and you won’t be able to ensure the road ahead is safe from debris and other cars. Let's all be responsible road users and give these giants of the road, the space they need. Remember, patience is key! Whether you are moving or just transporting a large item, renting one of these trucks is your best option. Unfortunately, most people don’t have a chance to practice driving a truck before it’s time to drive one. We learn to drive in small passenger cars, and making the switch to a large vehicle can be tricky. Make Wide Turns Carefully: A Guide for Safe Driving Understanding how to make wide turns safely is essential for preventing accidents and ensuring smooth traffic flow. Wide turns are essential for larger vehicles like trucks due to their size and length. When trucks turn, they require a broader path to avoid hitting curbs, sidewalks, or other obstacles. Understanding the principles of wide turning can help all drivers maneuver more safely. Tips for Making Wide Turns Safely: 1. Plan Ahead: Before making a wide turn, assess the intersection or turn radius. Check for any obstacles or road conditions that could impact your turn. 2. Signal Early: Use your turn signals well before initiating the turn. This alerts other drivers and pedestrians of your intention, giving them time to adjust their actions if needed. 3. Check Your Mirrors: Always check your side and rearview mirrors to ensure that no vehicles, cyclists, or pedestrians are in your blind spots. 4. Use Your Horn When Necessary: If you’re unsure about other drivers’ awareness of your turn, a short use of the horn can help alert them to your intentions. 5. Be Mindful of Pedestrians and Cyclists: Pedestrians and cyclists are often less visible to drivers, particularly when turning. Make sure to check crosswalks and bike lanes carefully to avoid collisions. 6. Maintain a Safe Speed: Approach the turn at a controlled speed. Too fast, and you risk losing control; too slow, and you might not clear the turn properly. 7. Avoid Cutting Corners: When making a wide turn, avoid the temptation to cut corners. This can lead to collisions with curbs, other vehicles, or pedestrians. Making wide turns safely is a fundamental aspect of responsible driving. By planning ahead, signaling properly, checking mirrors, and maintaining a safe speed, you can navigate turns with confidence and reduce the risk of accidents. ____________________________________ ☎️ 708-588-9820 📧 hr@fastactiontrucking.com 🌐 www.fastactiontrucking.com #truckdrivers #intermodaltransport #intermodaltrucking #drayagecarrier #otr #overtheroad #overtheroadtrucker #truckingbusiness #wideturns #safedriving
