Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace announced the launch of the National Manoeuvre Air Defence System (NOMADS), a highly mobile, ground-based air defence system designed to protect army manoeuvre units close to the frontline against increasingly complex aerial threats. NOMADS has been developed for the Norwegian Army and is tailor-made to address current and future challenges. The system consists of a SHORAD (Short Range Air Defence) module mounted on an armoured mechanized vehicle with high off-road mobility. This module integrates key command and control functions and applications from the medium-range NASAMS system and includes a passive seeker missile and an AESA radar. The system is capable of detecting and intercepting drones, UAVs, cruise missiles, helicopters, and aircraft. Russian air defenses destroy 540 Ukrainian UAVs, 7 ATACMS missiles over week Russian air defense forces shot down 540 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and seven US-made ATACMS missiles over the week, the ministry reported. "Over the week, air defense capabilities shot down 7 US-made ATACMS operational-tactical missiles, 6 French-made Hammer guided aerial bombs, 22 US-made HIMARS rockets and 540 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles," the ministry said. Overall, the Russian Armed Forces have destroyed 646 Ukrainian warplanes, 283 helicopters, 32,816 unmanned aerial vehicles, 580 surface-to-air missile systems, 18,524 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 1,469 multiple rocket launchers, 15,569 field artillery guns and mortars and 26,915 special military motor vehicles since the start of the special military operation, the ministry reported. 🇬🇧🚁🤖 The British Army is exploring the integration of uncrewed “mules” into its new AH-64E Apache helicopters to enhance operational efficiency. The initiative was revealed by Lt. Gen. David Eastman MBE CEng FIMechE, Deputy Chief of the General Staff, at the recent International Armoured Vehicles Conference in London. The integration, which falls under the concept of manned-unmanned teaming, would enable an Apache helicopter to serve as a command-and-control node for up to six unmanned aerial systems.
